Default Price Increase on 991.2

Well shoot. Tonight I went to the configurator and it looks like every option is 100-300 more than just this morning.

Bet it's a currency exchange correction. Dollar has lost a little to the Euro over the last year.

Maybe. But if the dollar gets strong I doubt the prices will drop.

Porsche 911 sales are only off 27% - a price increase should help a lot!!

Wow. I just checked and these are huge price increases on the options list by a percentage basis. Same on the 718 too.

But Porsche is awarding record "special" bonuses to their employees.....

Good on Porsche. Good for those employees. Do you pay your employees a bonus? I do. All +300 of them.

They NEVER drop with currency fluctuations. They'll just profit from the extra $$ if it's in their benefit. That's business.

Good time to take that European vacation!

It is paltry compared to the 20-25% first year depreciation

Of course. However, I was challenging the assumption that the increase was based on currency fluctuations. Labor costs is clearly going up due to voluntary bonuses.

Are their costs really going up? Inflation rate in Europe is flat. http://www.tradingeconomics.com/euro-area/inflation-cpi

I don't buy that the currency fluctuation is driving anything. Dollar/Euro ratio is about where it was 12 months ago according to this chart: http://www.xe.com/currencycharts/?fr...to=EUR&view=1Y

Large international companies also use currency hedging to protect themselves from these very fluctuations.

Selling anything (in this case Porsches) is about the art of transferring money from one person's pocket to anothers. No surprise there. Porsche is doing it very well.

I don't think this is a currency thing. I think they are playing around with the configurator. It's easy to glitch the system. The price of PCCB changed twice on me. My Base Price on a configuration was more than the total price after adding options. Give it a few days and it should be back.

Keep in mind they do have yearly price increases regardless of the currency. On parts, it's multiple times a year.

This is easy to do during record-breaking sales and a great economy for this car segment.

It's actually the other way around. Euro is slightly stronger and on a strengthening trend recently. Meaning headwinds for VAG as they bring those dollars back to Germany from US sales. Maybe they are trying to get ahead of the curve on this as the economy in the eurozone is showing signs of recovery and the euro will likely continue to strengthen a bit.

And don't forget VAG needs every nickel they can find to cover the accrual for the diesel emissions debacle.

Could backfire...if they raise prices beyond current levels they will likely lose me as a customer when my lease is up in November.
