leasing. it's what my dealer told me drives to models and options they order as inventory cars.
Thus basically Carrera models with around $117k msrp and offer/sale price of $103 to $106.

As for used vehicle pricing and calculating the price after several years of depreciation; starting at MSRP assumes no discount of initial sale price. Thus if you think the dealer is working at a 5% margin, it may actually be more like 15% if the car was a negotiated down initial lease sale price.

Also, seen where it was stated the residual on the 911 is 58% after three years. Like most things, options rarely carry into extra price value, think full leather interior vs standard, sport chrono vs not. These types of items may add to desirability, but my experience dictates they rarely mean much more in selling or buying a used car.

Model/Mileage/age are the bottom line, it rarely matters if it has 10k miles and is 10 years old, it's still worth about what the normal mileage 10 year old model is worth.

Obviously the Air cooled prices are not reflective of this theory and frankly seem a little nostalga induced from my perspective of having had one of those cars

Can someone else use the edmunds and autotrader on line valuation tools for their cars (owned or sold) and give an opinion on the "accuracy" of the values, please?

I am genuinely interested in this, it is not a matter of valuing my car for sale...

Default MY2017 and MY2018 GTS discounts

I m in the market for a custom build GTS.
what discount can I expect off MSRP?
Is over 6% achievable ?
After June delivery,it will be MY 2018.Any difference in discount that folks are seeing ?

Hi xneilx-
I ordered a MY18 Carrera 4 GTS and got 2.5% from my SA. August delivery. I was told allocations are tighter as Porsche dealers upset that 991.1s were over-supplied (don't know if true but that's what I've been told). SA said 5-6% possible on base Carrera or S but for similar discount on GTS you'd have to wait until something was sitting on the lot. Would be interested to hear if you are able to swing a better deal.

Good luck!

Sincerely, Boulder Mike

Absolutely. That's the only choice in the configurator.

I am working on a MY17 deal and am at 6% off msrp for a custom build.I have a lease that I would likely have to turn in early.2 questions :

1) If I choose to buy instead of lease , will they allow me to accept the new car in August for example even though it arrives in June.
2) Alternatively , if I buy in June , will they accept my lease turn in early as in the pull forward program?
I don't want to be forced to get into a lease if I decide to buy.I have a 991s that has the lease ending towards the end of August.

thank you

Jlee504- I traded in my 991.1S and used as deposit on a 4 GTS. My SA said I have a slot reserved but "technically" do not have an allocation. So you are probably correct. He asssured me I was at the top to get to an allocation assigned in the near term. As far as '17 vs '18 he told me that even when the front end configurator flipped over to MY 18 there was a several day period where there were MY '17s available. That said as of last week there were no more MY 17s available. He said my delivery date would be August.

Cheers, boulder Mike

As I am on the cusp of placing a gts my2017 order , I am also considering purchasing my existing c2s lava orange.attached is the build sheet. It would be 88.5k + tax for my to buy at 24 months and under 10k miles.
Any guidance re the value of the car ?
msrp was 122.8k
I do love this car but am also excited about the new gts !

thank you

xneilx- personal decision but if it were me I'd buy existing lava car if spec'd the way I wanted. I'm only trading my '16 .1S for a new GTS b/c I wanted to get back into a manual with some other specifics (GT silver, etc, etc). What I'm losing is the NA motor. So trade offs for me.

Default Cargurus...

Another tool... just went into cargurus and started filling the "sell your car" form... it is interesting, it gives you suggestions on pricing and how to change it depending on where you want to be in the list...

I am continuing my crusade... Just requested a KBB instant cash offer, came in at 74k, followed by an email from a "KBB Instant Cash Offer Manager" to drop by and inspect my car in 15' so that they could pay me more...

So, for now:
  • On line request for trade-in value to purchase a GTS came in at 69k, and I would get the 6% sales tax rebate on the new purchase, so 73k net for me.
  • KBB instant cash offer at 74k net for me, potentially higher after inspection (where I suppose they would try to sell me another car).
  • Cars similar to mine (CPO? Leather?) have been auctioned in the 78-80k range during the last year or so (true, they were somewhat newer then). I imagine those were sold with at least 5% (4k) margins by the dealerships?
  • Autotrader, based theoretically on Kelley Blue Book, does not allow to select any options, and values it at 80-81k for private party value.
  • Edmunds, which allows to select some options, but not CPO, values the car for trade in at 76,4 if I rate it as "clean" or 79 if I rate it at "outstanding". That will equate to 81k or 84k net for me.
  • Edmunds, which allows to select some options, but not CPO, for sale to a private party says price would be between 81,6 ("clean") and 84,2 ("outstanding").
  • Cargurus, taking into account local cars for sale in my area, values it for private sale at 86k but recommends listing it at 82k for it to be a "good value" and sell quickly.
  • Edmunds, which allows to select some options, but not CPO, says that if I was going to purchase it from a dealer the price would be 86-89k, even more if CPO'd.
Nice range of values... I would definitely buy mine again for most of them!

Edit again to add the residual value after 3 yrs (roughly) calculated according to the different methods...

Source Residual value after 3 years
Blschaefer depreciation percentages adjusted for mileage (see page 1) 66%
Edmunds - purchase at a dealer 66%
Cargurus - private sale 64%
Edmunds private sale 63%
Auctions + 5% margin 63%
Edmunds trade in 62%
Autotrader private sale 61%
Oalvarez depreciation percentages adjusted for mileage (see page 1) 60%
KBB cash offer 56%
Trade in for GTS 55%

Rule of thumb for other brands used to be 50% after 3 years, clearly these cars do better than the average, no big news here...

Wondering if the group has an opinion on an offer I'm considering.
2017 C4S Cab with 140k list and option for purchase at 125k. The car was used by the dealership and has 5k miles on it. Never registered, so being sold as new with full warranty.
Would welcome your thoughts.
