Exclamation AWE Tuning 991.2 Carrera Development Thread

Finally. Arrival.

Aside from all of the epic things going on in-house on a normal basis, this week was special particularly because a gorgeous 991.2 rolled in first thing on Monday morning.

Wasting no time, it was granted a lift and tear down commenced. We were eager to get acquainted with Porsche's newest Carrera, and we dove right in.

Its intercoolers, intake, and exhaust were thoroughly evaluated and scanned.

Next up is a non-PSE equipped Carrera S for further evaluation, and then its off to the races in giving the new 991.2 our signature treatment.

I'll be keeping a running tab on our development progress so be sure to subscribe and check back for updates.

As always, feel free to hit me here or email me directly with questions!

Awesome pictures, certainly a more complicated engine (as expected).

Well done on your probe, that's a serious piece of gear.

Super cool thread ... pls keep it updated!

especially interesting to see how you acquire physical dimensions and import them into CAD tooling!

That was the probe I was referring to, you can see the guy holding it in a couple of pictures (it's grey and has a robot looking arm). These units have synchros in all of the joints and can calculate the tip's exact x, y, and z position as you move the gun (handle with probe tip) around. You won't find one of these at Walmart or Harbor Freight

Nope!

reminds me of the QA system Maclaren have for the 12c (saw it on one of those "dream cars" or "how its made" shows) they place the monocoque onto the
bench and then multiple robots measure and check the chassis tolerances

Looks great! I'm interested in a 991.2 c2 base in the same color combo so this will be great to see the progress.

A fun fact: ours uses a laser.

Instead of capturing a single point of data with each probe tip touch, ours scoops up 2 million points of data with each sweep of the laser

Goin' SwitchPath™!

We're retaining factory break points to allow options and an upgrade path -- AWE Tuning HFC sections paired to the stock exhaust, SwitchPath™ Exhaust paired to stock cat sections, or the whole exhaust suite.

Check it:

also that 3D scanner is sweet

I'm really hoping that AWE is taking into account the quad exhaust and not just the sport exhaust setup from Porsche. I specifically did not add the sports option so that I could add a custom exhaust myself and not have to spend the extra $2600 from the factory.

2017 991.2 Carrera 4 Base w/ Sport Chrono

- quad tip black exhaust

Of course, Joe. Definitely understandable. Thoroughly taking care of PSE then non-PSE.

Lookin' good, by the way!
