Drag race: 991 GTS v.BMW X5M
#16
My '11 X5M would surprise a lot drivers, that didn't know how much power it had. I never used the launch control, as mild torque braking was enough to explode off the line. I also had a blast at VIR, running the North Course, it handled great, for an SUV (SAV per BMW)
Edit: Found an old pic, last one before I sold it.

I have to say when I first heard of these I thought the same. After seeing how they perform and actually driving one I'm ok with it (although I personally would rather drive an M5!) but hey its the wifes car.
The fact the x6m is faster around the nurburgring than an e46 m3 is pretty crazy.

Then look at how quick they are around high speed tracks like big willow where it can really use its HP! Faster than an f80 m3 (with same driver) and even a 997 gt3 rs? wtf

dude, i'm with 110%. having driven a number of m cars in the past, i was pi$$ed that now BMW is slapping M badge on SUVs. however, you have to drive these animal and you understand why they did what they did. very well sorted SUV in the bends w/ very little body roll and great dampers for on-road and track set-up.
i suggest you take one out for a test drive if you can, you'll change your perspective soon thereafter

I've done 0-60 and quarter mile races in my 991 GT3 this year and beat the C7 corvette, the new Z06, mustang GT350, Z28, Ferrari 458, M3, etc.
Outside of the 911 turbo and the GTR, nothing beats a GT3 or RS in 0-60 times except >250K super cars like McLaren, Lamborghini, and the new Ferrari 488.
Surprising, because I didn't think about this at all when I ordered the car for regular track days and weekend fun, but the new GT3 and RS aren't bad at 0-60 or the quarter mile.

Let's try 3.3 for the GT3 and 3.8 for a PDK GTS (for apples-to-apples' sake). Sure other sources get faster times for both, but one should assume the testing methods for official Porsche times are well controlled, so the delta should be accurate, 0.5 seconds rather than your suggested 1.0 - 1.1.

My wife drives a regular Hemi Grand Cherokee -- it's a nice ride when you get on it. The guy I bought my first 911 Turbo from a few years ago had the first gen SRT8 (WK, iirc.) I had to ride with him back to his home when I bought the Porsche from him and he gave some demos -- it was a fast vehicle for sure.

Questions on the X5M for those guys that have it and follow it. I had an F10 M5, does it share the S63TU engine or is it a new one?
And when will BMW do the facelift? My F10 M was face lifted one year after US release, I would wait for that if it were soon.
And is it a true clutch transmission? I have thought the XMs did not adopt SMG or DCT previously.
