Default Noob question on ground clearance and scraping

Would be very grateful of some help.

I'm planning a 991 C4 purchase (no aerokit) but need to traverse a lot of roads with speed bumps, plus leave the car in a multi-storey for work. (Steep ramp.)

Finding it hard to get decent info online as to how big a problem ground clearance and scraping will be.

Any 991 owners who can offer some advice.

Cheers!

I have a 991.2 TTS, without the aerokit, but with front axle lift. I have not had a ground strike 'yet'. On ocassion I have used the front lift just to be on the safe side. I also try and do a slow off angle approach, if I can, on ramps that look like they may be trouble.

I have a 991.1 C4 and haven't had any scraping issues with it yet in my 3 weeks of ownership. If a incline looks steep, I just take the approach at an angle as a precaution.

Taking dips, speed bumps etc. at an appropriate (slow) speed and an angle will protect your car from scraping. I used to off-road and just apply the same logic to traversing obstacles.

I have a 991 gt3 without the lift and it's not a problem. Just have to approach bumps/driveways at an angle. You will be fine with a 991 Carrera, GTS or turbo without the lift unless u have some extraordinary circumstances

991 base will be fine. There is a black plastic piece under the front bumper that protects from scrapes. I scraped this piece a few times but it was not noticeable.

You can see this part here and is $210 to replace.

I have had my 2017 Targa 4S for 2.5 months and have been amazed at how few scrapes I have experienced. The same hazards that crunch my Tesla Model S are mostly non-issues for the 911. Pleasantly surprised.

Take driveways at an angle and be aware of big dips. This comes with the territory owning a sports car,

While KenTO is correct, the part from Sun coast does not include the lower section. So the final tally would be more a bit more than $210. My 991.2 TTS has the active front spoiler system system that is worth much more to replace if I ding it. Hence why FAL seemed like a good idea to me to add an extra safety factor in. I also always drive with the spoliers retracted in the City. If you could measure the angle, of the ramps you use daily you could find out how close you would be. I know we can't go around measuring all the ramps/driveways/speed bumps in the world, but if your steep ramps at work are OK it might give you a good visual clue for other incline/decline situations.

My SA advised me not to get the front axle lift. Last night I scraped coming out of the gas station at an angle. I scrape a lot, even knowing to be careful. It's a pain but $210 is cheaper than the lift.

You'll be fine, I have SPASM and I scrape the front fairly often and have even pulled it off a few times. It snaps right back in and I'll replace it when needed, as said it's not very expensive.

I have the front axle lift and I'm very happy about it. Use it often, mostly when going at an angle is either inconvenient or unsafe (other traffic).

That being said, for about 90% of situations I use it in I wouldn't absolutely need it. But the other 10% would be pretty bad. Here it's mainly side streets with massive dips when you enter (for rain run off), gas stations, parking lots, etc. Not so much private driveways or multistory parking. For example if I want to take a certain route to work I HAVE to use the lift or do an unsafe maneuver that is also near impossible with any traffic around.

Overall it's not much of an issue, but I would hate driving the car as a daily driver without the lift and with anything lower than the standard lip.

I have a 2018 C4 with 2750 miles on it so far including many parking garages with steep inclines. Not one issue.

I recommend that you ask your dealer for a car and drive it over the concern spots that you mention. That will make you feel at ease.
