I do like the heatedness of the wheel too - 3 degrees in London today!

FYI my Porsche centre said the 991.2 wheel couldn't be retrofitted, but they tend to say no about everything like that so I trust the indepdendent specialists more.

I think it's a testament to the uselessness and bad design of the gear change buttons on the MF wheel, that they have disappeared on the 991.2. It's either PDK with paddles or MT.

You can still get a multi-function steering wheel but now it's just a choice of buttons on the wheel or the standard wand to control the MFD.

Personally, I am leaning towards the new small diameter Sport Steering wheels without buttons, and I actually don't mind the wand. I think it works ok and the steering wheel looks cleaner without the buttons.

Keep in mind the 997.2 wheel is already on the current GT cars (GT4?). Which you can order with other steering wheels. So... looks pretty compatible to me.

This guy swapped out a 991.1 GT3 steering wheel for the 991.1 GT3RS one.

https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3-...e-rs-haha.html

I'm not sure if 991.2 versions will be compatible with 991.1's though.

No buttons version definitely looks cleaner.

I have no Porsche, yet. I'm searching for a Carrera/S and I have four deal breakers: no automatic, no black exterior, no beige interior, and a must-have SD steering wheel.

I know I can change to SD, but I'm not willing to pay something extra for a MF and then have to pay again to correct the mistake. I have lots of time to find what I want, but if my search drags on forever, it may be that I'll get more humble on the steering wheel and then swap it out. We'll see.

It's JMO, but to me both the standard and MF wheels look like they were cobbled from a Cayenne or Panamera. Maybe my aesthetics are skewed, but to my eye they just look kind of jarring (out of place) in a 911 interior...they don't have that "sporty" look/feel, and I can't see sacrificing the perfect look of the SD just so I won't have to reach over to the nearby center console/PCM when making an adjustment. Obviously, YMMV...

Now, in the 991.2s the standard wheel actually looks slightly preferable to the MF/GT wheel. Again, JMO.

The MF only started looking as terrible as it is now when they made it uniform color. The older silver center and spokes look reasonable, actually.

I think that the buttons on the new MF wheel feel rather cheap.

I drove a Cayenne recently and as far as I know this is the same MF wheel that the 991.2 will come with.

The button press and click action felt cheap and plasticky. Not as nice as the buttons on the 991.1 MF wheel.

I think that the new MF wheel looks really nice, so the buttons were a disappointment.

Not a fan of the MF wheel, but that's because I don't have any use for the functions. If I did, I'd probably have a different view.

I have the New MF wheel on my Macan Turbo and the most useful button is one you can program as a quick short cut to your favorite MFD screen. I have mine programmed to go directly to the sat nav screen. It's handy sometimes .....But even though I have the MF wheel in my Macan, I am going to stick with the wand in the new 4S.

Excellent!

MultiFunction - basically a bunch of additional and unnecessary buttons all over
your wheel to control things that you probably dont need or want ... combined
with a truly poor mechanism for shifting PDK (should you have it)

I believe it has been said before. If you have PDK than the Sports wheel is a must. On the other hand, with a manual transmission, it does not matter. I have a manual transmission and preferred the multifunction wheel, even though the sports wheel was standard on the GTS.

I have the SD wheel on my manual 4S and the heated MF wheel on my Macan. For me, it's a matter of aesthetics - the 911 SD wheel is way better looking than the MF wheel. As far as convenience goes, I prefer the stalk on my 4S over the little wheel on the Macan, and I hardly ever use the stereo controls on the Macan's wheel. I do love the heating function on the Macan, but I drive it much more in the winter than I do the 4S. The bottom line? If you love the car, don't let the steering wheel drive the decision (pun intended). Just have the dealer swap it out.
