I have had both and love both so you can't go wrong with the multi fcn. You can always go from multi fcn to sd, but not the other way around.

I had mfcn first and I really miss the volume **** on the steering wheel. Don't let it stop you from getting the car you want.

Anyone else like the heated option? I do.... geez I'm getting old. Had SD on my C4S now have MF with heat.... I like both but the heat is great especially on a cold morning. Might add paddles for best of both worlds.

I've found the SD wheel to be the better driver's wheel, but I just be without the ability to fiddle with the stereo volume on the wheel, so I went with MF.

That said, a leading independent specialist has told me he thinks the 991.2 wheels will be retro-fittable to 991.1s, and if this is confirmed I'll be ordering one of those and have the massively overdue best of both worlds.

Heated steering wheel in an awesome feature, especially in a convertible. I rate it more important than heated seats now that I have both for a while.

I think it is a shame that Porsche never updated the 991.1 sport design wheel with proper paddles to have a heat option. I think that was "promised" at some point but they decided to redo the whole thing for the 991.2 which admittedly looks pretty much perfect. But something retrofitable would be so nice to have.

It looks like the only solution would be to go play with it and see what happens. GTS inventory is shrinking by the day (more like hours it seems) and I don't want to be left out in the cold.

IF the new 991.2 wheel can be retrofitted than I would have an option between the SD and 991.2 wheel if I wanted the paddles or by adding the champion/TechArt paddles. Seems to be more options going from MF to something else.

I do like the "girth" of my SD wheel now and the paddles are just convenient but that's being said without trying the MF wheel.

Now I"m trying to remember if the MF wheel on GTS's is Alcantara or leather ... DAMN YOU PORSCHE!

FWIW one reason why I don't go bananas about the buttons versus the paddles is that I still shift with the center shifter. In fact I often shift down the left hand on the wheel and up with the shifter. That's a lot less cool than it sounds since Porsches before the 991 gt3 have the shifter work the wrong way.

I generally dislike buttonitis but given that I listen to a wide variety of music the ability to quickly adjust volume (to make good for perceived loudness between Dio and Loreena) is essential.

I just wish that Porsche would market up and offer us options to have a multifunction shifter (with volume buttons!) - with a heat option for the shifter ****. And obviously, why the heck is it that we can't have a ventilated steering wheel yet? What opportunity loss.

Argh. I can be in charge pretty please?

RB, are you custom ordering a new GTS? Is that still possible? Or are you talking about retrofitting some parts into a dealer car?

Retrofitting what the dealer has on the ground. The car is pretty much perfect beside the wheel. There are only three cars that I've found that "fit" my criteria for a GTS.

I'm late to the game I know.

The three cars are basically in my color choice; Carmine, White and Silver.
One is a manual (I have PDK now and love it), one has multifunction instead of SD (I have SD now and like it without knowing what MF is like) and the other is a 4 GTS (have a C2S now and love the 2 wheel drive)

There is one other but it's black and I really don't see my OCD self being able to handle black without my head exploding.

So all in all I will need to compromise, the question is on what. The transmission, steering wheel or drive configuration (by far the biggest change)

Did you ask them whether they know anything about possibly retrofitting the 991.2 multifunction + heat wheel?

The heated one has the button in the back of the lower spoke.

Squid42:

I have not - I could go that route but would assume they know little before the 991.2 comes out.

Seems reasonable that it would work but I'd lose the Alcantara option I'm thinking

I have test driven multiple 991's with all three wheels. I do like the idea of being able to up/downshift with one hand using the multifunction wheel. For someone who is more of a highway cruiser, the multifunction/heated wheel is the way to go for me.
