Default 991 Purchase Help...

Hi everyone. I am new to the Porsche world having driving mostly BMW M cars for many years. I did grow up in a 911 family though as my mom drove 911's for 30+ years. I am now in the market to pick up a used 991S. I have set myself a budget of $100k but really want to spend less if possible. The issue I am having is do I buy towards the upper end of the spectrum and find a very low mile 2014 or 2015 or do I move down to something in the 20-30k mile range and maybe a 2013 or so and save maybe $20k? Long term I want to get a GT3 but right now that is not really in the cards as $150k just is way past my self-imposed budget.

Couple more things I have a few must-haves:
-PDK
-Sport PASM
-Not Black

What really got me thinking about the higher mileage version is that there is a 2013 available from a dealer locally (certified). It has 28k miles but checks all the right boxes:

-Sport PASM
-PSE
-PDK
-Sport Chrono
-Burmeister (!!!)
-Aerokit (not needed but I love that way it looks)
-Navi

Original MSRP was $124k and they are asking $83,000. My coworker bought his 2015 991 Turbo S and his 2014 Cayenne Turbo from them and I think I can work the salesman down... what would be the right price?

Thanks everyone. Sorry for the long email but I really know nothing about the 991 or the market and don't want to rush into anything.

Thanks!

Mark

I bought a used 2013 S with 38k miles and over 3 yrs. on a CPO warranty. I paid about $71,500. Mine is manual and black on black and the dealer said it had $40k in options-I am trying to find out what those options are. I am not concerned at all about the high miles and am so far very happy with the car. I wanted the S. Mine has many performance options but not too many of the nicer interior options (base stereo). I would definitely get one from a Porsche dealer with the CPO and I would prefer the S over the base. Also, mine does have the hard top which seems to have more value in the long-run (targas, sunroofs and ragtops cost more new and are worth less down the road from what I have seen).

Mark,

Don't get all excited over the "navi" on the car, since it's standard and all. $83K sounds like a fair asking price for a '13 911S, assuming that it also has a sunroof and nice wheels, etc. depending on where you are in the country. Since you didn't bother to list your location, that's hard to judge.

Mark,

With your budget, you should be able to find about anything you want. Personally, I prefer to have a 2013 that has all the options I wanted ... and more ... for less money that the car you are considering. It took me several months to find the right car for the right price but I am very pleased with the deal.

Look at the thread that Mi650 sent you because STG post a lot of good cars there. I think you are on the right track to know what you must have but be flexible on things that are nice to have.

Good hunting and let us know when you decide. You have to show us the pics!

Default Right Price

You will enjoy your 911--whatever you get. I live in SoCal (Newport) and just bought a used 911----If you can wait 30-45 Days--I know that waiting is not easy---the prices are going to go down another 5-8% as the new 991.2 is being released and winter is typically a slower time of year for sports cars purchases--

This is my opinion---I have seen the 911 you looked at--nice car. The right price today would be @78,500---in 45 days, the same car can should be available for $74,500---.

Check tires---my car supposedly had new tires (I later measured tread depth at 5MM)

Check Headlights for cracks---

Mark:
I bought mine about 2 wks ago. A 2013 S, manual, PASM Sport Suspension, Sport Exhaust, heated seats, sport chrono, navigation, electronic steering, 20" sport techno wheels (the nicest wheels IMO), sport seats plus, sport design steering wheel and basic stereo. It had 38k mi. but I have over 3 years on the CPO warranty. I bought it in Cary, NC for a $42k trade (2011 base Panamera) and wrote a $31K check. It is a black on black hardtop and I think it will be much desired down the road. I did not want a PDK. So, I got a little better trade than expected and $1,500 was tax, registration and doc fees. I hope that helps. I think I did pretty well. David

You can type your VIN into this website and it will tell you the build / options:

For reference, I bought mine in September in Southern California for $84.5k. They asked $89k for a 2013 C2S black on black, full leather, PDK, sport suspension, sport exhaust, sport design steering wheel, carrera classic wheel, glass sunroof, Bose, 14 way seat, premium package, sport chrono car (original sticker $123k). 11k miles, CPO with 4 full years left. Paint metered the car and it has all original paintwork. Tires are probably 50-60 %.

I don't know how much the 991.1 will drop in value once the 991.2 is available. My guess is that they will hold value very well since they are the last of the naturally aspirated, and they don't have that BBQ grill engine cover that people seem to loathe. I originally put a deposit down for one of the first 991.2 allocations. But once I saw the 991.2 official pics, I immediately got a refund on my deposit and went shopping for a low mileage CPO 13 to 14 C2S.

Good luck !
