Would you keep this '16 GTS allocation or wait for '17?
Here is my dilemma. I have a build date of Oct 3 that needs to be locked in early Sept for my c2s GTS, MT, Ducktail, Gt Silver, Garnet/Black, and basically nothing else. I like basic cars. I lose my deposit if I switch to a '17 after the order is locked because my dealer does not want such a basic car to sell.
The new models are being introduced Sept 17 so I could switch to '17 or a later '16 build even now but I want my car since Iv been waiting for one since July.
Now, I don't care about the turbos or the new PCM screen or new steering wheel; however, the only thing that would upset me would be if the '17 GTS is more HP/TQ in a Normally Aspirated version or if there is a new color that I really like.
Now, I don't see how they could make the 3.8 in the GTS any more powerful without new cams, hollow valves etc and I just don't think they will do that. Nor do I think they will use the 4.0 L detuned. So if its NA, I think it will be the same motor as now so Im thinking of just sticking with what I have. What do you guys think? What would you do?
Thanks for the input

If it's more, it won't be that much and I doubt you'd even notice it. I'd take the '16 and avoid the fugly body mods.

Stick with what you have.
The way Porsche has introduced each of the models in the past, don't expect a GTS for about 2 years into the 991.2 generation. It's very predictable what will happen. Just look at the playbook for the 991.1 models.
They stagger them and don't give you everything at once. Great marketing ...

According to Ian Kuah's article in the October "[I]Excellence[I]," on the 991 GT3RS, the GT3 series cars will be the only surviving naturally aspirated 991 version once the mainstream Carreras go to turbocharging. If Porsche does another 911 GTS in the future, which they probably will, it will almost certainly be a power-kitted S turbocharged version. Lock the '16 if you want a NA GTS. I don't think we need inside information to see where Porsche is going with this. Just my thinking, but that's why I bought a GTS before I was fully ready.

Do a little research on this forum. I think its pretty well established the new motors will have a little more hp and a lot more torque. I am sure it will have lots of improvements, but will have to see what they do about weight and turbo lag. I'm not sure this is for me in a 911.

Wait for the '17.
Better yet, wait for '18.
Heck, hold tight and hold out for anniversary 60th edition. That one will be über special.

Listen to STG. The educated guess is that there will not be a 991.2 GTS for a couple years. So if you wait for an MY17, you'll almost certainly be ordering a C2S with - at best - an expensive powerkit option.
On a separate note, do TN consumer laws allow dealers to hold on to deposits? In most states, that's not legal.

Thanks for all the input, my gut tells me to keep what I have. I have just seen reports of the GTS still being NA but really see that in the way Porsche does things with marketing and model roll out it will likely be a turbo a year or so down the road. Now I just need the damn thing !
As an aside, I can't believe the number of Porsches my dealer turns over here in Nashville . The Pre owned 911/Targas go very quick. 5 days at most ! There is still something magical about the cars that pulls people in

The 991.1 GTS is still NA. The 991.2 will be turbo but it will be later down the 991 series end of production life, basing from previous GTS releases. But the schedule is dynamic and can change any time. So if you like the turbo, then wait for it. It will definitely has more power and torque. If you like NA GTS, then get it now. In my case I picked the NA GTS and loving it.

1) its highly unlikely that there will be a MY '17 GTS once the current production
run is done, capacity will switch to facelift turbo cars... minus GTS
2) the GTS model is typically the *last* variant to be release until the end of
the current model production lifetime, hence a 'facelift' GTS is unlikely to
apper for another 2-3 years.
3) those articles referring to the engines remaining N.A, are in my opinion, talking
about the current car, and not a future GTS facelift model, when there will
be no N.A engine other than the GT3 engine (maybe)
In short, a MY '16 "bird in the hand" is worth "two in the bush", take the
current allocation....

Now that is a chuckle-inducing piece of advice. lol
I was thinking the same thing as I read through the thread.
To OP ... why not grab the '16 and enjoy it until a '17 has been out and about? I see folks here making short-term moves like that and it makes sense ... you cover both bases.
