Thoughts on future GTS collectability if it stays NA
I was wondering your thoughts, and what may happen with the future of the GTS, being collectable or sought after if it stays non turbo and naturally aspirated.
I have read the articles of the Carrera change up to turbos in the 991.2, but also have read two magazine articles that said the GT3 and the GTS would not get these changes.
Makes me wonder if the GTS will be sought after just for the fact of getting a NA type engine and the sound. It will give up nill in power to the turbo units. So why not just order and want the GTS over the turbo cars. Price point I know would be the biggest issue.

0%. GTS's aren't any more special than any other normal run Porsche. The only thing that might have an influence in the future is limited numbers and that's not the case with any GTS. Buy it because you like it because in 2 years it will be worth 25% or more less than what you paid for it.

Depends on how you define the 'future'. I'll be dead by the time these mass produced machines are collectibles! Classics and still works of art...yes. But collectible would be tough to foresee.

The 991.2 GTS might have a chance, if it gets an upgraded NA engine.
It will need one, to keep up w/ the Turbos.
The current GTS is really just an options package, aside from being a widebody in RWD format.
I think the 50th has a better chance, than the GTS.

Very interesting! I agree. I am buying a GTS and am on a GT3 list with my dealer. I could care less as long as I have fun..!

It will certainly appreciate down the road if you get one this model year (2016). Order by end of October to be sure, and probably only if you get a 3-pedal car. The 991.1 will be know as the last of the naturally aspirated, 3-pedal cars from Porsche as 911's will all be turbocharged from 2017 on....
Now for the bad news. 1) you will need to hold it for 20 + years and 2) it will need to have low miles on it 3) no accident history or paint work 4) manual trans only.
I have a good friend who has a 1986 Porsche Turbo he bought new for $ 55K and has 72K miles on it, all original, always garaged, no accidents or paint. 4 years ago it would have brought maybe $ 35K, now its a $ 125K car.
If you order a PDK car, then forget it. The key is the manual trans, as the GTS is the most powerful Porsche you can still buy with a manual gearbox. I am considering ordering a 2016 GTS myself, configured the way I want it and that will be my long-term car if I do. But then again, I also think a Ferrari 599 will be worth WAY - WAY more than a Porsche GTS in 20 years, so I'm considering one of those as well.

Agree 100% that the focus should be to go with what you enjoy. No one can predict the future, especially long term. My guess aligns with others. I would be thrilled if in 30 years my 7MT, SPASM, non sunroof GTS is worth something close to what I paid. I seriously doubt it will happen before that timeframe. And by then, gasoline will probably be hard to find...

Thanks people for the gr8 feed back. I have a December build but I am going with PDK. Worms and buzzards will be eating me before I have to worry about collectability at near 52. I am on a GT3 list with my dealer, behind 3 others.
So when the time comes we shall see, might hang onto this car if they do something funky with the GT3

Yes the GTS will definitely be collectible. The GTS is the last of the great steering feel 911's, and with its short model run is only out there in limited numbers. Prices are already showing relative strength and- but wait, did you mean the 991 GTS? Nevermind….

If you want a car that will be a collectible, buy a Cayman GT4, Boxster Spyder, or a 911 Club GTS. I do believe thought that this generations of 911s will deprecate better that past generations (with the exception of the last air cooled 911s), simply because of being the last NA engines. And certain builds and types will be more sought after, but in the big picture it will be negligible.
I leave you with a last thought. When an acquaintance was passing away, the question was asked: What do you regret in life? The surprising answer was: I wish, I had used my fine china more, instead of just admiring it from the cabinet.

Great analogy on that. I saw a GT4 listed on Ebay Auto and the bid was up to 148 on it and he never sold it. It was kinda a grey color and had the carbon ceramic brakes.
In all honesty though, I am not worried about collectability etc. I mentioned that early in my posts. I was just wanting to know what the thought was as I like to keep up on stuff. Like the one guy said get it in a clutch type car if you were thinking of that. I am ordering mine in a PDK, the way I like it. And my goal is still to get a GT3 next as well. Life is short. My car will be here in Nebraska on December 15th. IF the snow holds off a tad I might get a bit of driving in it. Other wish I will wire my radar detector etc and have it ready for spring fever.
