Metal Sunroof to Glass Sunroof Swap?
Been searching for a post discussing this and yet to find one so thought I'd ask. As the recent owner of a new to me 2012.5 991, I would have preferred finding one with a glass roof but alas, wasn't meant to be. Got the metal sunroof, which is fine, but would have preferred to get a glass roof. Is this something that can be easily swapped/replaced? Any techs here know what is entailed?
Thanks!

If the actual panel in your metal roof is the same as the glass piece dimensionally and functionally, why not? The roof is serviceable and the panel is surely replaceable. I have the glass roof, and mine has a power sunshade, so I guess you would forgo that. But you can always have the glass piece tinted. I would check it out with your Service Advisor to get an idea of cost, and if it can be done.

Didn't the glass roof only become available in 2013 .... Maybe I'm wrong but I don't remember it being an option when I got my car which is 2012 1/2.
Sorry not meaning to hijack your thread but it mentioned that you were looking at 2012's and preferred a glass roof.

This makes it sound as if it might be as easy as simply replacing the steel panel with glass. http://www.porsche.com/usa/models/91...etilt-sunroof/

For those with questions on HOW to do this, feel free to reach out to me - I believe I have a solution - my 991.1 sunroof NEEDS a glass roof. I have researched this extensively BUT have not yet done it. Located a glass top and 2 different speciality shops that state they can do the work (about 1.5 hrs they think). I'm at 703-994-8514 (txt me first plse). R/T

There was a guy on here who did it. I want to say it was about 6-7 years ago. A search should find it.

yes, adding moonroof or glass roof to a solid roof per OP.
I remember my friends adding moonroof to their Golf GTI’s and BMW’s in the late eighties. It is a good way to add rattles and creeks

Oh - gotcha (I guess you meant to say "rattles and creaks") - well, each to his own, right. Thanks for your comments. Reading through the other comments, it seems I am not the only one interested in doing this ~

He's talking about swapping a factory moon roof for his steel roof. Nothing 80's about that, in fact it's the current favorite roof of modern 911's.
