Any guesses (or non-guesses) as to why?
ED cars go thru stricter customs scrutiny than factory cars

Obviously. Because we want to smuggle Kinder Überraschung in the glove boxes.

Any insight into the details? Two weeks is enough time to dismantle the car and put it back together (incorrectly.)

Sadly no my guess is they all go to the back of the line when offloading so that the factory cars get processed first and last they customs to the VPC

I'll let you know my time starts 7/3 when my car lands in SD

I poked around with Google a bit yesterday. It seems that customs folks have - at their sole discretion - the option to physically inspect any imported vehicle. It seems realistic to assume that they do not inspect every vehicle and, for the most part, just make sure the paperwork is in order for cars delivered straight from the assembly lines. One would assume that they do some random checks of that group. If all of that is correct then it explains why the vast majority of factory cars on the same boat as our ED cars arrive at their final destination first. Our cars don't go to the 'back of the line.' The non-ED cars never have to go into any line.

Good to know; doesn't explain why PCNA told me to expect a 2-3 week delivery time between port arrival and dealer delivery ...

My guess is that Customs is worried that someone took their ED car from the factory, drove around Europe to some undisclosed location and then stuffed it full of contraband, returning it back to the factory as some sort of 'drug mule'. Heck, with run flat tires you could fill all four with enough marching powder to drive the car all the way back to the factory!

that's exactly the issue so ED cars go through a more rigorous customs inspection, which puts them at the end of the line for going thru the VPC
for processing before being transported to the dealer...

I'm hoping I might get my car by the end of next week, (but I dont expect much to happen to it over the 4th weekend) but realistically I doubt I will see it until the week of the 13th...

Got a txt from SA that my GTS was loaded on Virgin Leader on 6/27. It's on schedule to arrive at the dealership by 8/7 or earlier.

Mine's on the Florida Highway due-in on July 1st. However, it arrived this morning two days early. My wife has been providing me with twice-daily updates on the boat for the last week.

For some reason I think I'm going to be driving this one less than I anticipated.

Hey that's great news ... I wonder how long it will take to get to the dealer?

2 - 3 weeks. Right?

I would assume it all depends upon the order in which the cars selected for actual inspection are processed and then waiting for enough to the same dealer to fill a truck. I would bet against a customs process designed for throughput and low cost...

When we got back from ED I put my money on 7/20 which was 5-1/2-ish weeks after we dropped it off.

I'm hoping that # is a wildly conservative estimate!

I agree though the customs process will not be optimized for cost or throughput... I imagine though that the final transport will be batched fingers crossed ...
