Default 2015 - 911 GTS - Tuning Options/Ideas??

Hey All,

I just picked up a 911 GTS in Carmine Red w/ many options. This is my first Porsche but not the first car I will tune.

I have been researching and have nailed down the following mods:

IPD Plenum
Fabspeed X-Pipe
Fabspeed CAI
Dyno Tune @ Dyno-Comp in Scottsdale, AZ

The car comes with the "sport exhaust" option that sounds incredible so I don't believe I need to upgrade.

I know that being a NA car I am limited and if I wanted real speed and capability then the Turbo or GT3 have insane customizing options, but those cars are $$ and I wanted a more every day car. I'd eventually like to get into tracking this car and will also enjoy "spirited" driving through the mountains, but will continue to drive it and not make it a garage queen.

Has anyone done all of the above mods on the new GTS? Should I add or change anything? I had planned a budget around $10k so let me hear what ideas everyone has.

Thanks,
Joey

You'll be lucky to get 10HP out of all that trouble. 5HP if you're lucky. The Fabspeed stuff is a total waste. You'll never notice the difference other than a placebo effect and much lighter wallet.

The GTS already has the powerkit, you're not squeezing much more out of it.

Now ... Show us some pics, build info, and an introduction. Welcome!

Save the $10k for your future track and coaching budget. You'll know what upgrades you need (if any) as you reach the limits of your car driving it consistently at 10/10 on the track. Way too soon to be thinking about any of that now.

So are there any worthy tuning options for this beast?

No!! Just drive the hell out of it. Or some guys might say get a manual gear box. For the record I have a PDK.

Looks great! Interior pics too please.

you are most welcome...

IPD plenum might help an S ... but is unlikely to make any positive difference to a GTS which already has a modified factory plenum as part of the X51 kit.

Fabspeed, h'mmm well if you want to recycle hot engine air using the Fabspeed CAI is the way to go.

XPipe, doubt it will add any hp, it might make it sound better... *might*

as for the Dyno Tune ... if they can get more than 10bhp out of the X51 I will be surprised, and I bet they lose tq elsewhere...

here is my opinion, having owned a 993 C2S, 964 RS America, 1999 996 GT3 Clubsport, 996 GT3, 997.1 GT3, 997.2 GT3, and my 991 GTS Cabriolet which I picked up today, save your money, none of the modifications you mention will make a damn bit of difference ... apart from voiding your warranty

"NOTE: For vehicles equipped with Porsche Sport Exhaust (PSE), this product replaces the factory center muffler PSE system. As such, the "exhaust sound option button" will no longer be functional. "

We aren't "anti mod" guys here, but some things make no logical sense as Larry stated.

I see plenty of opinions here with a focus on track driving and millisecond performance differences in lap times. The truth of the matter is, NO exhaust is going to make you faster on the track unless you are 100% able to exploit the full potential of the car's chassis and engine performance in OEM form. The best time spend to get faster on the track is always going to be driver education and practice.

However, as it is clear you are not particularly interested in such statistics and rather just having fun I do think that there is value and enjoyment out of your list. Of course I can only speak on behalf of Fabspeed's products as mentioned. I imagine you will mostly use your car on the road for nice drives at sane speeds. There is a lot of enjoyment to be had from the Fabspeed cold air intake and X-pipe(though I recommend the supercup if you have factory PSE, more on that in PM).

You wont see more than 10hp from the intake, this much is true. I do not think that is necessarily a negative. It goes to show how much engineering Porsche did with this GTS, it really is a remarkable machine. What you will get is a much nicer looking engine bay and a downright addictive induction noise on acceleration. It all comes down to where and how you use your car that will dictate where your money is best spent for maximum enjoyment.

What might be awesome for you could be met with huge resistance from others and that is totally fine. Do what will give you the most enjoyment out of your car for the greatest amount of scenarios.

just as background, I dropped some $0k+ into my 993 C2S:
- big red brake kit
- litronics
- RS suspension
- Quiafe diff
- LWFW
- 993 Powerkit
- ...

was it a great car, yes, was it better than a 993 TT that I could have bought with the money I spent on the modifications, no way, did I recoup any of the money I invested in it, no ... would I do it again ... no!

with these newer cars there is even less left on the table for aftermarket tuners to extract, especially with 'exhaust' systems alone, even headers and
new cats the $/HP is insane

If I had 10k in my pocket to spend on one of these cars right now, I'd buy some HRE wheels and Bilstein Damptronics and I'd be done with it!

Beautiful car! I'm not a modder so I don't have anything to add to the discussion, but Larry knows his stuff and you'd be well advised to listen to him. Save your $10k and look for another set of rims if you're into that (though the OEM CLs are gorgeous too).
