Text and emails
#1
I Noticed on the 991 under phone there is a tab that says messages. Once I push it, it shows both emails and texts. Why isn't either of them showing the data. I was under the assumption that once the text message comes in it'll show up on the screen. Any guidance would be appreciated.

I was advised by my dealer for both BMW and Porsche that to get emails the only system supported (back in 2013) was Blackberry due to security concerns. My IPhone certainly did not support emails at the time so I switched phones and get all emails on the screen now.

I have a question about this as well. I have android and can get texts, but not emails. I can also only read them and do not see any options to respond. This would come in very handy as people often text when I'm driving and I wish I could respond when I'm stopped at a light without having to take my phone out. Is there some setting I'm not seeing to enable this?

The manual states:

You can edit or add to the text as required.
– "Reply with YES": The input menu is opened and the original text of the message is shown in the text field.
The reply "YES" is appended to the end of the text.
You can edit or add to the text as required.
– "Reply with NO": The input menu is opened and the original text of the message is shown in the text field.
The reply "NO" is appended to the end of the text.
You can edit or add to the text as required.

I think the "PCM" phone, which has all those features, is the one built into the car. To use it you have to populate that little slot on the console with a SIM card. That is, most of those advanced features don't apply to your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone.

My HTC one integrates pretty well and even reads your texts to you. The Apple 5S not so much.

might be a phone thing. my prior gs3 and current galaxy note shows texts perfectly, but no emails have ever shown. when texts arrive, the pcm beeps and notates a new message icon.

You can hear the emails if you have an iPhone. Hold the front button activate Siri and say Read Emails or say Read Text. You will hear them on the pcm

Three Wheelin'
Over the years, there's been a bunch of these type of posts on the BMW boards. General consensus there is that Android phones work and that Apple/iOS phones don't, and that it's an Apple issue, not a BMW issue. I presume it's the same with our Porsches. But I just want to ask - is anyone receiving text or email messages thru the PCM with an Apple phone?
