Easier said then done. If you only buy Porsche N Spec tires you can't buy anything other than Pirelli for the 20" 991 wheels.

Accident using the new Chinese tires!! Kidding!

A 959!! Was in love with the car back in high school! Only 337 units built. Wow.

Ever see a rubber tree in Italy? France (Michellin)? I'm not a fan of Chineese made tires but I will wait and see how the company changes under Chineese ownership. Many tires are made in 3rd world countries already and I believe Bridgestone is Japan. Except for a shelf life, we could stock up now !

+1 It only matters where and how well the tires are made, not who the owners are.

I'm not sure, but you aren't implying that Japan is a 3rd world country? I can assure you it isn't..

To the OP: Controlling interest doesn't mean they are going to change specifications and such.

I did not imply anything like that.

These kind of deals usually mean big changes. Sometimes for better or worse. We'll see how it pans out for Pirelli. I could care less either way. If they go the wrong direction, someone else will move right in.

I might use a shirt from a Chinese company, but not sure I'd want tires made there unless their QC was from a parent company outside China. That is, there's a huge difference between using Chinese manufacturing and buying from a wholly-Chinese company. Quality of the Pirellis will almost certainly suffer.

I would offer up a similar survey 3 years later...coming in at 9th place...

And I'm not sure I trust any country touching the Mediterranean with QC either. Not exactly a region known for work ethic.

Bottom line is you are going to have a hard time living life avoiding products made in less than desirable locales and industries will continue to consolidate - and more often than not those products are just fine. Michelin makes tires all over the world - including several Asian countries - but who made those 1.3 million recalled in 2013? Canada. And who made the 100k recalled 6 months before that? South Carolina.

It's all a crapshoot - i just do the best i can with the information i have.
