Default Where does the 991 GTS get extra power from?

Hi guys, I was just wondering this question what the brains at Porsche did to extract 30 extra HP in the GTS over the 991S. Upgraded intakes? X51 power package? Thanks

X51. As for what that means or does, it's a pretty extensive, albeit subtle, list of things. Ought to be for over 15 large. Rather than list them, I'll point you to just about any of the (non-bloggers) reviews -- seems like all of them recount the process used to get the extra hp.

Cheers!

X-51 (aka Powerkit) has different intake manifold, cams, valve gear and heads. Not a trivial amount of stuff.

And different brain (DME ). And 3rd radiator to keep it all on the down low.

I didn't quite understand how the powerkit added the horsepower. In doing some research I came across a Porsche Engineering magazine that explained it.

See page 28 in the attached linked file.

Why get the Powerkit when these exhaust guys will give you 15HP just from a few new pipes??

Wishful thinking on their part

wishful thinking or simply lying because they believe Porsche owners are stupid enough to buy anything? just wait till they start advertising that by removing the rear badge S and putting on the $35 GTS badge you get at least 5hp.

Yes there are a lot of gullable people. Anyone knows you need sport exhaust tips too.

And another 15 from a oiled air filter, and another 15 from a cold air intake.

One of the GTS reviews has a very detailed breakdown on how the Powerkit develops the extra power .. will see if I can find it.

ALL of the magazine reviews have had it: Excellence, Panorama, R&T, etc.

There's a lot of talk about the trickery with respect to the intake runners, essentially fooling them into being short-and-sweet at high revs, and also being long and torquey at low revs. Also, extrude-honing the intake valve passages like any good hot-rodder/NASCAR builder. Reprogramming for 7800 rpm, although there seems to be a bit of mystery surrounding that, as the tach doesn't register any differently than a 991 S tach. I don't know if anyone has come on here with car in hand and confirmed it will bang the limiter at 7800, while an S bangs it at 7400, as claimed. I'd be interested to know the truth of that one, since the tach faces are the same...

It is the X51 engine. PSE does not do very much at all though. Mostly in the heads, intake ports etc.
