When dropping the MF wheel, that control piece for the dash functions gets added. Got it now.

What do you guys think of the 991.2 wheel?

I'm glad you posted the pics and the carscoops link, I saw it after I nominated you to try out the macan/cayenne wheel. Another poster said the wheels aren't interchangeable across platforms and that may be so - but now you have a 991 with that wheel coming out so it should interchange with yours.

As to the looks - personally I like the sports design wheel best and when searching cpo (as silly as this sounds) the SD wheel was non negotiable for me. IF I needed or preferred tr multifunction wheel, the new design is wayyyyyy better than old and I would definitely choose it.

I never used the steering wheel controls in other cars except for ones that have cruise on them so I might not be best to answer.

I've priced out the swap at approx $1,450 parts and labor at a P dealer. I think I may go for it.

I like the SD wheel better than the 991.2 one pictured in the article.

Nice! Better priced than at Porsche of Plano. Although I was quoted the $2000 when I inquired about swapping the multifunction one out on a cpo car - about a year ago.

im in the process of doing the same. i like the single function paddles and the ability to pull both and put the car in neutral like a ferrari.

It only works that way for GT3s. Carreras, you have to use the stick for neutral. At least on the car I test drove for several hours, and according to my SA. Pulling both paddles didn't neutralize it.

Maybe it's a feature of sports chrono? Did the test drive car have that? I don't use it all the time but it's handy

Incorrect, my GTS def goes into neutral with a quick pull of both paddles.

Interesting! I was testing an S with PDCC/PASM SPort. I tried it at a light and didn't get neutral. Asked the SA (30 year Porsche vet, I've been buying from him since 2002) and he said what I wrote above. So I didn't try again. Maybe I just flubbed it (didn't get them pulled at the same time) and he just doesn't know what he's talking about. But then he owns a 2015 Carrera S with PDK and PASM (not Sport and not PDCC). Hmmmm...

My old 997.2 shipped from the factory with the standard wheel. I had the dealer swap it out for a MF wheel from a car they had on the floor, so it seems I ended up with a MF wheel and the stalk. It never even occurred to me over 5 years that wasn't standard!

So many ridiculous misconceptions and comments here.....it's purely a personal choice.

1) Neither the SD or MF wheel steers any better then the other.
2) Paddles don't perform any better than buttons & vice-versa.
3) The MF wheel doesn't have "kewl" paddles like a Ferrari
4) The SD stalk pales in comparison to the MF functionality. If it doesn't control volume, mute, etc. quickly it might as well be a popsicle stick.
5) Neither wheel is a must have for any transmission, no matter anyone's opinion. PDK works just as quick with paddles, buttons or stick. You may prefer one or the other, but that's why it's a personal choice.
6) You should pick one or the other.

According to my owners manual for my PDK GTS, if you pull both paddles, the transmission does go to neutral. Haven't tried it though.
