Swore I'd never do a black car again, and then bought the black Cayman. Ever since I had it an Opticoat Gloss Coat put on it, the dust simply doesn't stick and the car looks great. Had the full OptiCoat done on my white car and it looks amazing as well and seems to just shed the dust. Highly recommend it for a dark car.

[QUOTE=STG991;12026692 Black does hide the shape and lines of the car though. It all kind of blends together. Car manufacturers never show cars in black at shows, etc..

Look at a black Lamborghini next to a white or yellow one. Same for a 911.[/QUOTE]

+1. It's why I bought agate. I thought it showed off the car's curves better.

Xpel wrap the high-impact areas. Done.

Wow that is gorgeous. The only regret I have about canceling my C2S order and buying a leftover car is that I had to forgo black for white. They look so good in black.

Jet black. front half of car XPEL wrapped. Entire car is coated in Kamikaze. All done at Esoteric in Columbus, OH.

Relatively easy to clean (rinse, dust off with towel). Hasn't seen wax in a year.

This thread is helping me reduce my anxiety level! I have a 2016 Black GTS cab set for Sept build and wonder if I will obsess over maintenance. I have a Panny S in black and don't get too crazy but all this tech talk on wrap and/or treatment is making me think an investment might be worth the benefit.

How did a full wrap deal with the Porsche badging on the rear? Remove, wrap and then reapply the badges?

I didn't wrap the back -- only the hood, front fenders, front bumpers and the doors (generally avoid wrapping the headlights -- just do a thread search for why -- it delaminates the coating if and when the protective film ever has to be removed. This is why I now have new black headlights).

If you wanted to wrap the rear bumper cover, you can have them do cutouts around the badges or de-badge, then re-badge. I wouldn't wrap the rear bumper personally. It's the "haunches" -- the hips of the car -- is where the scratches, swirls, and imperfections will be most evident. But problems with wrapping the hips are
1. you would have to wrap the entire rear body shell, as the hips and the rear of the car are one giant piece, making it quite expensive and prone to imperfections, i.e. bubbles, during application,
and

2. it would require removal of the pre-existing stone-guard films behind the doors.

I would personally recommend protective film and / or coating, especially with a black or dark car. But make sure you get it done as soon as you can, because the car's paint will need to be corrected first (i.e. polished, compounded, detailed). The more paint correction you need, the more expensive the job will be (i.e. it could add $1000 to the detail alone). That's before you even start talking about protective films and coatings.

You will find dozens of threads and perhaps thousands of posts on Reenlist regarding detailing, coating, waxing, films, etc. I used to wax and detail obsessively. The film + coating solution makes things a bit easier for me and doesn't take up as much of my time. Probably doesn't look Quite as brilliant up close, i.e. not concours-level, but hey, I sleep okay at night.
