Thumbs up i just bought this car!

hello rennlist people!

i just bought this 2013 911 Carrera S from a dealer in FLA., and the trucker called me to confirm that it will arrive at my home in N.Y. tonight! needless to say, i am super psyched. i debated ordering a GTS but a) my build was over $130k compared to $90k for this bad boy with only 1200 miles and b) i couldn't wait three months once i had the $$$. i needed a p-car now here's a pic:

waiting at the dealer to get on the truck!

the only options i would have changed are the stereo -- i would prefer the burmester over the bose -- and the interior, which i think would be better in black than beige. but i can live with those things for the deep discount. i also think the big wheels look ridiculous, but that my be endemic to all 991's.

the one thing i would love to read more about is the 7-speed man-tran. most of the reviewers seemed only to get access to the PDK, and i understand that the car was built around the auto-box. but i'd love to read more about the stick. anyone got any links? i've been googling my *** off but not found much...

thanks!

Congrats and Welcome to Rennlist!

Great choice of color!

All you need to know about the stick is that you made the right choice!
Oh...and if you have sport Chrono it will rev match on downshifts in Sport Plus.
Also, the 7th speed is for fuel economy, just an overdrive...

Enjoy!

They didn't build the car around PDK, but they did build the 'manual' around PDK. There's another article somewhere that clearly explains this. Porsche basically designed PDK, then figured out how to make it work with a single human operated dry clutch. So the gears are not at all laid out the way they would be if they were designing a true manual gearbox. But that's all technical stuff you'll probably never really care about, because bottom line, from behind the wheel it is simply a very good manual transmission.

Here's an article with cutaway diagrams of both showing how similar they are. Lots of shared parts, including all the same gears (except for 3rd and 7th). http://www.caranddriver.com/features...-pdk-tech-dept

Awesome! Congratulations.

The 7 speed manual is great. The only thing to watch out for is the electronic parking brake is on the left side and it's easy to forget to set when you park.

When you get a chance post more pics and the options

I just don't understand why Porsche did this, the electric parking brake should have been next to the gear lever like it is on my Macan.

waiting for it is killing me. the delivery guy said he'll get to my house around 9. even then i still have to go to the DMV with the title and get it licensed (and pay the taxes). very, very difficult!!!

electronic parking brake is just total bullshrt. they'd better bring back the real thing in the 991.5.

Great car, great gearbox. You will love it.
Use just gears 1-6 and forget about #7.
Enjoy
