Changing center muffler on c2s

Changing center muffler on c2s
I have search all the past threads on retrofitting PSE on nonPSE S models. It seems that I can just change the center muffler and not retrofit the switch as long as I don't need to turn it off. Is that correct? Also is it just the muffler swap and nothing else? Please advise. Thanks in advance.

There's been ALOT of other posts over there concerning that too. Lots of material. Look up PSE or Sport Exhaust.

If you have a 991S, non-PSE, then you have the actuation valves on the car already. Its a simple swap in of the center muffler you can do in 45 minutes and you don't have to remove the rear bumper cover if you are careful and patient. The 991S computer program is like this:
Idle: Valves are OPEN
Under Throttle: CLOSED from rollout to 3,300 rpm
Over 3,300 rpm: Valves are OPEN
So, all the switch does on the console is allow you to overide the programming, its not really worth installing unless you just like to play with the buttons. I have detailed exhaust installation instructions here on the forum (or over at 6-Speed, can't remember where) that will walk you through it all using a Tubi exhaust. On the Porsche PSE, the valves are located in a different spot than the stock non-PSE exhaust so you will probably have to run some extensions, which you can easily do for $ 6 worth of inline splices and some rubber fuel line from Autozone.

Let us know how it turns out. I also don't really care about a sub 3300 rpm override and the back flow probably helps the torque. I'm also considering the sharkwerks side muffler delete but don't want to **** off the neighbors too much...

Fabspeed has a Center Muffler Bypass Solution for the 991 as well. Fabspeed's 991 Center Muffler Bypass X-Pipe is fabricated from cast stainless steel with a communication window in between the X. The X-Pipe creates a vacuum that helps increase exhaust velocity through the X portion of the piping. The radius in the X-Pipe is not cheated and produces a smooth flow to allow the most efficient exhaust flow possible. It also is an easy install which is a direct bolt on replacement for the factory center muffler.
Feel free to PM me or email me for pricing and other information!

Yes, because it bypasses the center muffler it will definitely be louder. It does work with PSE, so if you have PSE installed from Porsche, this X-Pipe will be compatible. Feel free to email me or PM me for any info on pricing or any questions.

One has to really like a boom with any X-Pipe system, by removing the center can you have taken away the area of volume to dissipate the sound. With the 991 engine being in the rear, there is no run of pipe (like you get with a front engine car) to tone the volume. End result, if no center muffler you will get boom and drone, doesn't matter whose system you use. I had an AWE Switchpath on my 991S for a day, it was quite loud and boomy, and returned it. Now I run a TUBI system which has great tone, no boom or drone but is quite a bit more cash layout.

I've never heard a car with the main muffler deleted. By only having the two small side ones I can imagine it's quite the head turner.

Without the center muffler the PSE is useless correct? The function of the dampers that open/close with the button will not be there without the center muffler. I've never heard a car with the main muffler deleted. By only having the two small side ones I can imagine it's quite the head turner.
