Default 991 Turbo to go Hybrid and everyone else gets a Turbo ...

We've all seen the articles lately of the next gen 991 (supposedly 991.2/992) going all turbo. This is the first article I've read that states the Turbo will go Hybrid to compensate. Should be interesting if true ...

"reportedly" from the same source as all of these follow on scoops. Just ponder how ludicrous what this article says. The Carrera S will be 520/520, and the turbos will be going hybrid, but not yet. Do you really suppose Porsche will have 2016 520 HP Carrera S on the showroom side-by-side with 520 HP Turbo?

It's amazing that the same single rumor/misprint whatever just get recycled endlessly as fact.

I agree, it's a bunch of BS. But the media eats it alive.

Why hire a proper Journalist when you can copy and paste!

I don't even bother reading these articles - out of curiosity do any of them mention what will become of GT3?

@Mondrain
2016 Porsche 911 GT3 Won’t Change Powertrain: The manufacturer thought about the people who would feel nostalgic because of the discontinuation of the naturally aspirated engines, so they left the GT3 version without a turbocharger. This car will also be updated, but those updates will make it lighter and better performing.

Yes, the GT3 bit is great too. They'll leave the PDK 475 HP $135K GT3 for sale alongside the new 7MT 520 HP $95K C2S. LOL

A number of information seem to confirm that the next 991 will be Turbo.
I dont think this is BS. Its actually the sense of history.
McLaren 12 C: Turbo, new Ferrari Cali: Turbo, next 458: probably Turbo.

Porsche will figure a way to set the successor of the current Turbo apart. Most probably the 991.2 won't have more than +30hbp over the current carerras anyway.

Due to pressure of emissions, I think the direction towards Turbo is pretty clear.
Remember, most of the forum thought that 911 would stay manual forever.

+1 Chuck!

...and to clarify another post, it ain't "the media" that eats this stuff up! Reminds me of a Warren Buffet quote...after two hands of poker, if you can't tell who the patsy is, you're the patsy!

Well, I don't think anyone is saying Turbos won't be happening. They will definitely be happening.

We were saying that the horsepower figures of the S model were BS. Otherwise, yes ... We are heading into a new era. Whether or not it's as a 991.2/992 gen chassis or the true next gen remains to be seen I guess.

What will be very interesting is how do the keep the real Turbo relevant. They no doubt will, the question is how. This article mentioned Hybrid tech. We'll see.

+1

I'll be very surprised if the base 911 and/or the 911S do not move to forced induction with the 991.2 (my guess is both, but that's just conjecture). The writing's on the wall and the spy pics support it. But the reported 500+ HP numbers are just silly and reported by people who know nothing about Porsche, their history or their product. The news reporting bar has gotten very low.

Wouldn't they just follow the Mecan structure? Base is a S and a turbo is the bigger turbo. Even though they both have turbos.

I suspect that is the direction we are heading in.

To me, it'd make sense with the 992 (next gen), and not the 991.2's, though, despite all the rumors.
