Default Painted Side Skirts and Rear Fascia

What are folks thoughts on having the side skirts and/or rear fascia painted? For those who have seen these options in person, do they improve the look enough to justify the $750 and $675 (respectively) costs? Are there certain colors for which these options look better (e.g., light v. dark colors)?

I considered it but I actually like the bit of contrast, ties the other black elements together across the car... painting those items does make the look overall a bit cleaner but I think keeping them black makes for a bit more of a sporty look if that makes sense. Plus if I decide to go aftermarket diffuser/side skirts I'm ahead of the game.

I'm painting both on my build, I like the rear facia painted to highlight the tailpipes, and I think the side skirts complete the look ... but I am a little concerned about road rash on those in the longer term

I hate black plastic. So, I ordered my rear fascia painted and purposely ordered the Sport Design mirrors for that reason.

Thanks, guys. Lex, have you had any issue with road rash (as mentioned by Larry)?

None. But hard to get road rash on the mirrors and rear fascia. Rockers panels could show more abuse. That's why Porsche uses texture paint in those areas or the plastic rockers on the wide body.

Sport, what colors are you thinking?

IMO, dark colors like black, blue and etc, the plastic black trim is less an issue, visually. But still an issue when detailing, because you don't want to get wax residue in those areas. Just another consideration.

Light colors like white, racing yellow, silvers, look best with the painted trim in exterior color.

+1 I love painted trim but I thinks its really makes a difference in the lighter colors. Painting the pieces always makes the car look lower and more aggressive.

I went with painted skirts and left the rear apron black.

To each his own.

Agreed. I have had two 991s - one black, one GT silver. I never thought about the issue until getting the GT silver, when the unpainted side skirts and rear fascia were far more noticeable.

My car is white and the rear bumper cover picks up a lot of dirt so I left the rear fascia black, but I painted the black front air dam and the mirror bases body color. I'm very happy with the results. I also painted the tail pipes black to blend in with the rear fascia.

I painted the rear facia and front spoiler after I got the car. Much cheaper that way. And I agree that Sport Design mirrors are the way to go. Black trim, IMO, looks rather cheap and unfinished.

although there is an option to paint the 'std' mirrors completely.

Very true. But the sport design mirrors are better looking and body color matched and a few bucks cheaper than the standard mirrors painted option.
