Default It Hertz

Wife and I have never driven a 991 so decided to rent one for the day. Picked it up at LAX and drove it (late afternoon to avoid the bicyclists) to the hills NE of Marina del Rey. Alt gain of 13,200' with 16% grades and IIRC routes 39 & just east of Route 2. Very impressed with the overall looks, superb handling and comfort of this base C2. This will be my wife's DD and I'll be looking for a little track time so a bit more power and the wider stance is in order. Will be looking for either a slightly used 50th with PDK in Geyser Grey or might order a new GTS coupe in White Metallic, PDK, roof delete, etc. T

Good choices but I wouldn't track a 50th if I were you. That's a powerful car but probably best to keep it a garage queen or DD at best due to its "collectibility".

If you're looking to track, the GT3 should be your first choice followed by the good old C2S or a GTS IMHO.

He said he's looking for a daily driver for his wife... kudos if she'll wheel a GT3 to the market!

ha, very true! Sorry, I misunderstood the OP as wanting to get two 991s. One for the wife and one to track ... whoops! Although I still think the 50th shouldn't be tracked.

Should have been more clear. Spirited rides through the Hill Country in TX and maybe a DE day or two per year .

Great ideas. Already have a LS powered (550hp), 6spd manual in a 3083lb 80 928 that really gets after it. Also, really like non-leather seating surfaces, so it's the 50th or the GTS with that beautiful alcantara interior. T

Thinking the GT3 is a little much for the wife's DD. T

One should suffice . Already have 2 really nice 928's and will sell the 94 GTS before purchasing a 991. T

I think this whole "don't drive the car because it may become a collectable in 40 years after you're dead" is ridiculous. Buy the car and drive it. If you want a 50th, buy a 50th.

We don't have Hertz Porsches around here, but that's a great idea to rent it and get a thorough test drive out of it. I'm curious how much that cost - I'm guessing a bit more than a Camry.

Spotted a 50th in Graphite Grey with the checkered fabric seats while in Marina del Rey and it looked fantabulous. Don't usually like chrome bits on cars but have to say it looked great. If we do purchase a 50th or GTS, will go with Moe's Phase II recommendation. Clear the hood, bumper cover, mirrors, headlights, and Clearplex the windshield. Rental for the day on the C2 with our 15% AAA discount was $ 339.15. Add insurance $ 89.00 (wife and friends wanted to drive) and approximately 130 miles over the 75 mile per day limit. That's $.75 per mile X 130 = $ 97.50 + tax for a grand total of 605.45 for the 24 hours."It Hertz" T
