Are they really going to do facelifts every 4 years now like every Hyundai and Honda out there?! VW management at its best! They're diluting the brand!
I wonder if the 992 part is actually true ... they never did this on the 996 or 997 not clear why they would be motivated to do it now...

911 facelifts have been a constant since the 911 was introduced 50 years ago- thats how the brand was built.

+1 and it makes sense to introduce the facelift with a 'new' model variant like the GTS to create some incremental excitement about it.

True.

But those were some LEDs(in some cases),some interior upgrades,a very small bump in power etc. All these wouldn't be worthy of a 992 code name IMO if that's the case. Judging historically,a 992 code name would mean a new design/chassis.
Facelifts were done under 99x.2

agreed ... I doubt this is a new chassis etc ... so maybe that part of the 'surprise' is wrong - although I dont recall a new exhaust being introduced in a facelift

Since they are running out of numbers for code names, maybe it's to avoid confusion with 991.1, 991.2 and 992.1, 992.2 in the future.

Wide bodies make the new 991 911 look shorter and heavier versus the narrow body variants. Therefore, it's hard to see where the aesthetic progress will supposedly be made next November in LA?

Say what?

It's not shorter or heavier though. Well except a minuscule amount of weight for 0.7" wider rear fenders I guess.

The wide body look is great, and one of the few improvements you can make to the body style in general.

I'd still be surprised if a 4 body with a power kit and some cutesy minor cosmetics are the rumored big announcement though.

Larry if you are coming this way you can meet me here somewhere in SoCal and do
that demo we were talking about.
LA is the perfect place to release a new model. As stated in every book or magazine I have read (and I DO NOT live in LA nor do I want to live down there) that SoCal is Porsche's most important market, and in that market LA is the most important market in the SoCal market. Its why they build so many Cabs and sunroofs!
