Ducktails? Why on a 991?

I'm a bit torn with it on a cabriolet

We would never have ordered the car in that color if it wasn't for the glass roof. It minimizes the boy-racer look and adds a bit of class.
Rare color, good luck in your search.

OK after seeing this many beautiful cars with ducktails I withdraw my weak opinion on these spoilers.
A couple points.
1. The GT3 wing with Ducktail and High wing is as pretty as I have ever seen on a Porsche. Just outstanding.
I have always loved that integration of the ducktail and the highwing with the Gurney lip.
2. On how many drive to notice the wings effectiveness? I regularly go out into the desert out here on Death Valleys doorstep and cut it loose. Once in my 996 GT3 the plastic front spoiler hit a stick or something and ripped it off at over 140. I immediately felt the front get loose and the car was really unbalanced I had to slow down. I got the lip and tried to get back up to speed to see but it was just not planted as before and I deemed it unsafe.
3. Those of you that dont like the deployable spoiler that is standard, have you NOT seen where Porsche would lift the whole Engine grille to "achieve" a spoiler? It looked like a BBQ back there when it lifted. The new one is not much different that the McClaren P1, and very much like the Aston Martin , Jag Ftype coupe or the McClaren SLR. I dont understand that comment AT ALL.
4.cdelrosario one of the best silver over red combos I have ever seen!!

Ducktails certainly look cool with C2 or C2S. But ducktails don't go well with C4 or C4S, I think. Both the rear light strip and the ducktail make a C4S's rear look too busy. A ducktail completes a C2S's rear; but a C4S's rear has already been completed by the light strip.

I had a similar experience while instructing at SIR one day. Drove two otherwise identical cars, only difference being one had spoilers. I was expecting a lot better handling in turn 1 at 110 or so but was really surprised how much difference it made around the backside at only about 60-70 mph.
So aerodynamics are hugely important. I mean, small aircraft take off at speeds lower than we drive every day! I've read that Porsche has done more aero R&D than any other carmaker. One big benefit of all this research is they are now able to eliminate a lot of lift just by ingeniously controlling airflow over, under and around the car, even without using spoilers and wings. Which is great because, sorry guys, but as good as they are functionally they really do nothing at all for the cars aesthetically speaking.
