Sun Roof

If my car didn't have the sunroof in glass I wound't miss it.
I almost bought a 4S when I purchased my 2S because the 4 had the sunroof delete.
I'm in So. Cal as well and have opened that baby like a half dozen times total. I also don't care for the way the roof opens up and hangs over the rear window.
I have a black car and black interior and it's as hot as it can be with the shade closed or not. Nothing like my CLS55 though. For some reason that car had a 3 inch "hot" zone below the headliner that would cook the top half of your head. I hated that. The heat would pour through the vents in the solid sunroof cover.
The wind noise isn't much different with any combo if windows up, down roof open closed whatever.

Purists shy away from any form of sunroof as it disrupts the lines and adds weight in the highest point of the car, therefore adding weight & raising CG, result is adverse cornering ability - no idea by what margin or if noticeable. As for resale, yes a sunroof probably adds value to the car for resale but only in the short term, non-sunroof 964's & 993's command a higher price in the market. In fact some go as far as blanking the sunroof at huge cost!

There is another post on the fact that the cover for the glass sun roof only keeps out 90% of the sun and lets in a huge amount of heat even with the cover closed. Since you live in SoCal, you may want to check this out. I'm very glad that I was just in time to remove this option from the car I ordered.
Good luck.

I have it but rarely use it. I'm not really a sunroof kind of guy. If I had a Targa or a Cabriolet I would probably have open skies more often but the sunroof I don't really use hardly at all.
If I had ordered the car, I don't think I would have gotten the sunroof.

I love my glass sunroof. I drive with it open and windows down as much as the weather permits. I like the contrast of the black roof, especially on a light car, and I like the way the glass sunroof makes the cabin appear more airy and open. Granted, it doesn't look the best from the outside when the roof is open, but it doesn't bother me a great deal as I'm generally inside the car and enjoying it when my sunroof is open. As far as I'm concerned, for my next 911, a glass sunroof will be (once again) a must-have option.

I use mine a lot and am glad I have it. Popping up the back totally alleviates the buffeting that coupes have with the windows down at speeds over about 60 mph. More access to PSE goodness alone makes it worth the freight. Fully open it is great and only gets wind noisy (not buffeting) at higher speeds. And, when driving you can't see how ugly it looks open.
