You are brave. There is a happy medium between DD in Manhattan and a garage queen. I wouldn't park there but that's just me. Let us know in a few months how it is working out.

Intentionally thrashing is not an accurate description. At least not of the attempt. Again, I kept my previous car clean during a full year and 16K miles of this routine. Through one of the worst winters for road quality no less.

The bottom line is with so many hours in the car daily, it's a bummer not to be in the car. That is the issue I think. She doesn't get enough use if you take away all that work.

I'm from Texas... So forgive the dumb question.... What's wrong with driving on NY bridges and tunnels?

Nothing wrong with the bridges and tunnels. Parking garages and street parking are the issue. Not a lot of space, much bumper car.

And btw I was taking the point to an extreme. I didn't mean to imply anything. I shudder at the thought of competing with maniacal taxi drivers and bloody minded parking attendants. Personally I prefer the train for the commute.

I love NYC and I have lived there for 10 years. No, I would not have bought a 911 if I still live there.

Many of them lead to New York.

They built 5 more while you were trying to talk yourself into it. Make sure your insurance is up to date, and drive it!

Right.

If you look at the depreciation it won't be much different between a 911S and a 911-50. I don't live in Manhattan but all the places I have to park in the big grey area which we call Los Angeles can be just as bad. The more mileage I put on my 991 the less I'm concerned about where or how it's parked.

Ask yourself this. How much more enjoyable will your commute be driving the 911 to the city on a daily basis? I can stomach the absolutely insane Los Angeles traffic because it's so enjoyable driving the 911. That has a lot of value for me. Ultimately only you can ask yourself if you can handle your own sanity by driving your 911 on a daily basis into the city.

I say go for it. If you acquire a door ding or something else that drives you insane then park it and buy something else. I have multiple cars to drive and choose to drive my 911 on a daily basis because it's so enjoyable. I own it so the mileage is a non issue. I find satisfaction in warming it up, maintaining it impeccably, mechanically and cosmetically. That's it. When it comes time to sell it will have a few more miles on it than the average 911 but I'm with Stu. Seeing all of those late 70's and 80's 911's with 4 digit odometers bum me out a bit. Just like the supermodel girlfriend or similar. If you can afford it, why save it for the next guy.

I drive all my cars to NYC weekly, it's really no big deal. Find an underground parking lot and get to know the guys and park there daily. Tip them good. These guys are a lot more careful and observant with cars than you'd imagine, as they are used to parking in close spots and not being able to open car doors all the way.

It's nice to use your car, and it makes the weekend hand wash and cleaning that much more rewarding.
