Default Winter Driving with a base 991

Yes, I know it's almost summer! I was wondering how the 991 handles in the snow/ice with snow tires? I am thinking about getting a set of snow tires and wheels.

I have base C2 and I drove all winter as DD. Pirelli snows on it and no problems at all. Go for it, it was built for snow

I have a base C2 and drove during the winter as well. I got the Porsche winter wheel and tire set (19" Carrera wheels, Pirelli Sottozero tires).

Tony, don't be afraid at all to drive the car in the winter! With a good set of snow tires 911's are quite competent in the snow. Many here can confirm that with a good set of snow tires you can get anywhere that you want. Please give me a call anytime to discuss. Thanks.

I'll be ordering some winter tires in a few months to go with the wheels I just ordered from Damon at Tire Rack. Last year I slipped by (literally) with summer tires. Never again!

I think someone posted this previously, but I couldn't find the thread - nice review of 2 options for winter tires!

I hope the link works

I've driven a 911 in the winter (not the current one)... awesome, fun winter car! With a set of Alpine Sports you will have no problems. If you have coil-overs you might raise it a bit to avoid the snow plow effect.

Car handled like a champ! #engineinthebackftw!

Got a set of black OZ 20" ultraleggaras with Michelin pilot alpines, mounted balanced and ready to go from tirerack. Way more sure footed even just in colder temps. I only drove it in significant snow once or twice, but it's was on the road all winter with frozen muck on the ground. Handled great the whole time.

What do you do with your car in the winter, while not driving it? I'm new to owning a 991 and I too do not have winter tires at all. I've basically attached my car's battery to an electrical outlet and put a car cover and left it in my underground garage.

But I always wandered if I should fire it up from time to time or just leave it be?

Leave it be. Fire it up when you are ready to take that first warm weather first drive, preferably a long drive on a twisty road.

I ordered a C4 and will put a winter set on it and drive it year round. I'll have a second car though for those days when ground clearance or family duties dictate.
