Default Rear License Plate Bracket??

I just replaced temp tag with license plate and was surprised when I unscrewed the frame that the screws go right into bumper and there is no bracket? Is this normal or am I missing something?

Ditto on my new 911 Cab. Was a bit surprised to see that a car that has so much thought put into every detail of its design and engineering, that this seems like it is an afterthought. Hope the screws don't come loose!

Yeah... I was really surprised by that too, but I'm sure it is fine. I just wouldn't remove / reinstall your plates too often.

Not anymore surprised than having to remove the rear bumper to change the air filters.

i'm also surprised by this poorly implemented rear license plate mount. has anyone done anything to create a more solid and secure rear plate installation?

This setup rubs off the paint too, where the bottom of the plate contacts the bumper. Lame.

WeatherTech sells a stainless steel frame with a rubber spacer that goes between the car and the plate/frame assembly. I think it is designed well enough to avoid the problem.

My dealer did not mount a frame. I am trying to decide what type of screws to use.

Man, I wish I'd known about that. I _just_ repainted the bumper.

Oh well, at least you can't see it with the plate in place.

If I remember correctly, my 991.2 has 4 raised bosses for the rear plate screws, and the plate barely makes contact along the lower edge.

Had these on my GT4. Work great and gonna use them again on my GTS. Comes w 4 plastic spacers w the screws and caps. Raises the plate off the bumper.
