Nav tv makes a fully integrated back up camera system for 900.

In the US market, they will have to include a camera for the 2014 model year, per Federal law. Anyone know when the first 2014s are expected to be delivered?

I love my car. But if a Targa with a rear-camera appears in 2014 I might be temped to put off having kids another year or two. Sorry, kids.

True but know it from actually driving one. Take a look at the options price sheet though. Look for item PAC 1.

fwiw, i found this website for a rear facing camera designed for the 991. looks like it is integrated with the license plate illumination. note that installing voids your pcm/radio warranty according to the manual. anyone interested in being the guinea pig?!?

$900 for a $90 lipstick camera is daft.
Having to void the warranty on a $3000 (?) factory head is double daft.
I've seen a few PCM warranty claims, I wouldn't want that to be out of coverage. I wouldn't want a "gen 1" 991 to be out of warranty.
I do want a rearview camera, but I'd rather buy a Contour and a Nexus 7 and leave them both permanently in the car than do this hackery.

Porsche actually does have a backup camera option for the 991
For some reason its only an option for the new Turbo and Turbo S
$1090 only a few hundred bucks more than the previous front and rear P.A
"ParkAssist (Front and Rear) incl. Reversing Camera
Includes:
Parking Aid
Ultrasonic distance sensors integrated in front and rear fascia
Porsche Communication Management (PCM)
A color image with superimposed dynamic guidelines on the PCM screen to facilitate controlled and precise reverse parking and maneuvering"
I'm not sure why anyone would complain about having a backup camera, I had one on my S5 and miss it dearly, esp when in the new 991 C4S it makes me nervous every time I back out of a spot

The 2014's are being delivered now without back up cameras. The Federal law in the US was actually pushed out a year and now it's the 2015's that have to have it hence not on 2014 991's as yet at least. Not even an option yet.
