Smile Carbonio's NEW Center Removable No-Drill License Plate Mount for 991

For several years now we have been making No-Drill license plate mounts for the 991 GT3 variations and they have been very popular with owners. Our mandate is to ONLY design mounts that position the license plate in the center and this desire was fueled by a hate for the lopsided look of tow-hook mounts. In addition our designs allow for the installation and removal of the plate in seconds which is great for car shows, track days, or for fast roadside fixes for those customers who prefer to drive without a front plate.

Of course the question is always 'Can I get something for my 991?' and we can finally say emphatically YES. Carbonio has just released a new mount that will fit ALL variations of the 991 and 991.2. This includes cars with Sport Design packages and other variants.

Here are some of the benefits:

- Positions plate in the middle of the bumper giving a OEM balanced look
- Installs in minutes without any holes. Can also be fully removed without any damage
- Can be installed and removed in seconds
- Adjustable for depth and angle allowing for a truly tailored fit
- Light alloy construction, powder coated with stainless steel hardware for durability
- Works with North American and Rest of World Plates; a truly global solution
- Does not interfere with front sensors
- Designed and manufactured in North America

This thread just reminded me that my just recently unnecessary front plate will be necessary for the state I'm moving back to.

Ugh.

ROFL and here I am thinking about buying it.

I was on an organized Porsche rally a few weeks ago from Garden City to Montauk and they pulled about 35 cars over, myself included, for no front plate, and kept us for about an hour. Messed up the day, and a $350 ticket.

I will continue to run no plate when in small numbers, but next rally I need a solution. I was going to grab the Rennline one, but this looks even easier to use ad-hoc.

The install instructions show it pretty good.

I know we were thrilled to be able to achieve that price point too. Even better is that we don't use any plastic. The entire assembly is made from laser cut alloy and powder coated with an exterior grade satin black finish. We also include stainless hardware to ensure long life. We pride ourselves on sourcing and manufacturing everything in North America. It would be cheaper if we made it in China but then again so too if Porsche moved their factory there

The assembly is made up of 3 pieces. There is a receiver that goes on the car and a 2 piece mount that allows for the adjustment of angle and projection of the plate. The two assemblies are connected via an interlocking mechanism tightened down via a thumb nut. It is really neat in its simplicity but requires a lot of accuracy in manufacturing for it to operate as smoothly as it does.

As I understand it, the receiver is held on with 3M tape, once that is in place you mount the 2 piece mount to the receiver.

I bought the skene design plate for my 911.2 which has been recommended here in other threads.

I'm pretty handy and I couldn't mount it....not enough space to drill the holes or to get a right angle bit in, so I took it to Porsche and the tech spend an hour trying to get a tool in place to drill a hole into either the lower or upper bumper....they finally gave up as well.

So, I, too am looking for another mounting method, maybe like this Carbonio.

Will this still work if you have a center radiator mesh grill protector?

It will so long as the mesh is set back far enough to allow for the placement of the receiver. You will need at least 1 inch of unobstructed overhang on the grille opening. Assuming the grill protector is not set flush to the outside of the opening you should be fine
