completely off topic but how did you get brand new permanent license plates on a new car delivery you drove two miles. Most DMVs (at least in Ohio) wont issue permanent plates unless you first have the temporary registration. Especially vanity plates. Whats to show the DMV until you actually have the car, and registration, and the title.
Sorry about the tranny.

I can also feel the pain + frustration on your beautiful 991. Form the color it seems like Meteor Grey, the same color I had with my previous 08' Cayman S which I bought brand new. After 1.5 years I sold it at great loss (mostly due to new car depreciation at only 6k miles). The reason is that, all Cayman & Boxter are actually made by Valmit, a heavy equipment manufacturer in Finland, not in German. The build quality was subpar and far interior than that of 911 coming out of German plants. To be fair, I don't have any problem close to what you experienced but nonetheless, the experience was poor and sour when you spend that much $$CASH on a brand new Porsche. You expect it to be PERFECT!!! PERIOD.
After that, I will probably never buy a new Porsche in its first 2~3 years product lifecycle. Case in point, I just sold my 01' 996 and bought a real nice low miles pre-own 08' Carrera S that is still in warranty. This 08' 911 is the last year-model of 997 1st generation. If there is any issue, Porsche should have already fixed them (e.g., IMS, RMS and so forth). Now, I just spend my time taking this Carrera S to dealer to fix minor things, like windows / instrument cluster rattles for FREE. Furthermore, I may purchase the Fidelity Platinum extended warranty before new car warranty expires so that I am protected in the next 4 years.

plates
In december I did a plate change from my old M3 to the "991S". New plates came a week ago and were still linked to the M3. When I purchased the car they did the plate transfer to the new plates. Worked great.

Make sure you get a brand new transmission and not a remanufactured one, request from the dealer the serial number on the "new" transmission they are installing.

Car is very nice....congrats!!!
Not to be a killjoy or a pessimist, just some advice............I would raise some real sh-t and get a new car pronto, as you may be too nice on this one........once something like this is replaced, it is either perfect or will continue to give you trouble, i.e. leaks if not installed/sealed right, etc.....
Don't ask me how I know......I'll tell you.......this was my experience for what it is worth..........
My transmission in a 996 replaced with a new transmission by dealer under warranty and not sealed correctly....started leaking after a couple thousand miles, etc.....never right after that, minor leaks....
Also.....My 993 had a transmission replaced for a bad synchro as part of the sales deal and it was also not sealed correctly by a different dealer.........it leaked.......second try, they took more care and hasn't leaked in 12 years........make sure they do it right!!
There is an art to re-sealing the transmission/engine correctly.....
Dealer can't seem to match the factory assembly

Sorry to hear this. Not trying to incite anything, but I would not settle for anything less than a new car. I have been driving an '05 997 for the last seven years without any issues. It appears to be a case of luck-of-the-draw. Hope it all works out for you. Cheers.

I can only imagine your frustration and disappointment. A less than 1% failure rate might be totally acceptable, but if you're in the unlucky 1% it doesn't make you feel any better. With all due respect, though, I think some of the comments are a bit off base. This is not a first model year issue. PDK has been around for almost 5 years. It's a machine, and sometimes even the best designed and tested machines will fail. It may be nothing more than a software glitch in which case you'll be back on the road soon. If not, hopefully Porsche will treat you right and compensate you for loss of use by covering your payments for any extended time that the car is out of service. My guess is you have zero chance of getting a new car at this point but IMO that's not necessary anyway; it's a transmission issue and transmissions can be replaced with a full factory warranty. Anyway, my condolences and best of luck with a quick repair.

This an excellent point. Dealers have many mechanics and they are not the same in my experience. Make sure that you DEMAND the failed transmission be replaced by their master mechanic and don't be afraid to ask for 3rd party inspection, e.g., a well known independent Porsche specialist in your local area.
