Bangled 998(991) ?
Below is Road & Track's (May '10 issue) rendition of the future 911 998(991) to be released late 2011 as MY12. The etched Bangle-look rear strays away from the classic smooth look.
The rear canopy/bumper crease is probably caused by the wheelbase stretching.
I'm sure this will be attractive to many but I suspect this design directional change will not appeal to the base 911 fans.

like it or not that doesnt look bangled to me. Bangle's motif is huge bustle asses, coffin cut lines for hood and trunk, dame edna headlights and other pointless ostentation. The classic bangle is something he didnt even come up with, the stacked diagonal exhaust tips on the lexus is-f

Hmm, if this is true, the rear looks a lot like Aston Martin!

I read somewhere that the next 911 would sport more curves. In this rendition the rear roofline is more defined like the cayman with two sharp creases running from the A pillar down through the C pillar. The transition from the rear fenders to the windows also looks more creased, or "flamed".

why?
Not sure how car makers have all these smart people, designers, etc and still seem to get it wrong many of occasions.
IMO, start with a 993 styling (which is a much smaller car then todays 997), widen it, lengthen it, follow the lines, modernize it where possible but stay in the same flow and you have a winner..... Update the inside to todays 997 line set up which IMO is a winner and done. Really not that hard. But what do I know....I don't look it this and think "disaster" but look at this and scratch my head as why could they have not done better.... but as noted sure the end car will look different, just a drawing here.
Eager to see what evolves....if this I will be happy I still have a 997.1.
One thing I do know, those exhaust tips are gross....

When I saw the 996, I guessed that they had taken the 993 to about as many curves and indentations as they wanted. So, the 996 gave them a starting place to do the process all over again, a quarter inch at a time to try to make each model year look fresh. If they started with the shape of the 993, where would they go? The 996 gave them 10-20 years of indentations before they caught up with the 993.
