Default not a big fan? Ummmm take a peek in your garage?

Hmmmm... rarely hear that from many that they were not a fan of the 993 exterior styling? Would not buy a 911 "no matter what you try to refresh it" if it was a take on the 993? Ummmmm take a look in your garage Edgy, you bought a car that in many ways does just that. You crack me up.......

Everyone has different taste... I have always thought the 993 was the perfect design style wise with the 993 turbo being one of the best looking cars of all time. Dated now as such time has passed but with some modern input would amazing. I love what some car makers have done with modern takes of older cars from the mustang to the camaro etc... such a twist on the 993 given the advances that exist today from Porsche, all new interior unlike that of the past, would be my dream machine and believe would strike a chord with many others. Maybe hard to put into words, but had seen a rendering/drawing where someone did this with the 993 and the results were modern, iconic, paying some homage to the old but with a new age flare.....

Better then drawings that resemble a space ship/semi-transformer like auto.

I will try and locate the drawing and if I do will post up....

The 993 is a stylized classic 911. However, the 997 is the quintessential evolution 911. Once the 996 happened - the 911 evolution - the 997 is the definitive realization of that evolution. It embodies, in its many design details, the various 911 generations, all the while maintaining the timeless design elements.

I agree with you. My opinion is a bit tilted as I own a 997 like most of us here. What would be great is if Porsche outdid the 997 evolution with the 998.

I take that back. What would be great would be if Porsche really messed it up for a few years and our cars became the best 911 examples. All in jest mates.

I do not wish that, but it can very well happen. I suspect Porsche sees the Far East (China) as its growing future market and that determination will influence car design. We will see angled/etched/complex design elements appealing to Asian customers and moving away from the simpler, less angular, classic Porsche designs. This is already showing on the Panamera and new Cayenne.

Here's another. I don't think we're particularly rare. I would never have considered one personally. Nothing wrong with people loving them, but tastes do vary. To me, it looks too much like a typical California kit car with those wide rear fenders grafted onto an undersize cabin section. This is a cultural thing I think. I just associate it with poseurs because so many of them looked like that in Orange County. I realize it was not, but that doesn't change my reaction.

Very good description of my reaction. I fell in love with the original 911 and some of the middle years feel too much like grafting a nose on the Venus de Milo to make her look Irish. The latest models feel like a modern realization of that original elegant design, with the balance of different elements correct once more.

Mind you, I completely understand people born later falling in love with those middle year models in their own youth and then wanting one. These things are very personal reactions.

The rear canopy/bumper crease is probably caused by the wheelbase stretching.

I'm sure this will be attractive to many but I suspect this design directional change will not appeal to the base 911 fans.
not sure how that rear styling would work with a cab
