Default Broken Front Spoiler Lip on 991.1 Turbo S

Thanks to the lovely debris that sits on many Houston roads, I managed to crack the front spoiler lip after hitting some debris. The mechanism itself is fine, the blatters inflate and work properly. It is the hard plastic spoiler lip (the one that extends and retracts) that is cracked/broken. My shop (independent) told me that the only part number was for the entire mechanism and the parts alone cost something like $4,300. Does anyone know if the lip itself can be replaced and if so, part number and cost? Thanks.

OUCH!! I learned that lesson early on.... "do not drive on highway with lip extended".

In my case the dealer covered the parts (over $5k Cdn here in Canada) and I paid the labour, but signed a waiver stating it was a one time only dealer offer.

As long as your lip is functioning, you might try to have the dislodged top portion of yours stuck back in.

Mine has a V like chip taken out that is about a cm across. It otherwise works. I've considered using some rubber type compound to fill it... not sure what yet.

This is why I almost never drive with the lip extended

You don't have to in order to damage it. When fully retracted, the front-most edge of the rubber lip sticks out under the bottom to control airflow under the car. I know because I had mine fully retracted, but over-rode a concrete tire stop in a parking space. The concrete block had two iron bars to stake it in place. I backed out, perhaps too quickly, and caught one of the bars and a small crescent moon shaped piece tore out of the lip. It doesn't look that bad and I'm sure doesn't really affect much.

The new replacement part is around $1695 at Suncoast (interestingly, the "S" version costs more: $1895 - you pay a premium for it to say "Turbo S" instead of just "Turbo"!), and of course it involves R&R of the bumper. I'm not sure if I want to bother fixing it, because this kind of thing seems to happen. On the other hand, I've got a set of Rennline screens to install, which...required R&R of the bumper, so I'm tempted to swap the rubber assembly out while I'm at it. But that's $1695 and it could happen again!

So, if it were yours, would you replace it or not?

That's great news!

In 2014 the only option was to replace the entire assembly.

Just do it!

But of course!

If I was taking off the front cover? Yes. Otherwise, I'd let it get some more battle damage first. Unless...

When I got my Turbo I practiced parking with cone. So far so good.

And now, I've hexed myself. Murphy will find me in the spring.
