Mercedes vs Porsche Burmester
Does anyone have first hand experience comparing the Burmester systems in these cars?
Thoughts, comments you can share if you have?
It comes standard in Mercedes AMG, while Porsche dings us a hefty premium..
Thanks for any help offered.

My wife's C43 AMG is arriving shortly. It comes with a some form of Burmester system as standard equipment, but has no higher end option.

Just sold my ML63. HK was quite good, but I suspect the interior size, which has implications to the acoustics, has something to do with the difference in quality when comparing to a 911. Perhaps a GT S vs a 911 would be more apples to apples, but engine noise also plays a role.

Yes guys I agree..I think the interior environment and size of the ML offers a better sound stage, better speaker placement & size options..and it's no slouch power wise either..

I was surprised to see Burmester being relatively cheap in Mercedes. Can be a different set up (e.g., is it ribbon tweeters as well?) or can be the same - Porsche is not known for value pricing on its options. FWIW, Burmester on my Cayenne is very good - if I were to compare it with a $1K/speaker system in an untreated room and $5K/speaker system in a fully sound-treated room, it's much closer to the latter than the former. I'm not expecting burmester in a 911 to be as good though due to more difficult shape of the car and speaker placement restrictions.

Comparison S550V vs 991 Turbo S Cabriolet
Good question. I have a 2017 S550V and the 2015 991 Turbo S Cabriolet. In brief, they are both different when it comes to acoustics. The Burmester sound system in the S class is much more refined in that you can appreciate the subtleties at much lower volumes with a more rich tone. This can happen only in a quiet cabin.
The system in the turbo is phenomenal taking into consideration that the sound quality is preserved in a convertible let a lone rear-mounted engine that it has to compete with. To be fare though, I don't drive my turbo to listen to the music. Hats off to the engineers of the 991, they certainly did make a compelling reason for me to actually turn on the stereo in my turbo. Both systems are great. Both designed for different audiences and different types of concerts =).
Hope that helps.

i have the burmeister in my 2016 S63 and in my 2014 991 TTS. the sound is much cleaner at all volume levels in my S63. there are more sound tuning controls as well that allow for more refined settings. the acoustics are better in the S63 as well given the size of the cabin. with that being said, i would definitely click the burmeister option in the Porsche over the Bose. there are two Burmeister options on the AMG mercedes. one comes standard and then there is an upgraded system for $6,500. i have the standard system and it is just fine for me.

The new 2017 model Burmester system has been upgraded over the previous version. I still think overall the system requires the better speaker staging of the Panamera and Cayenne to really get the best acoustic quality as there is only so much room in a 911 cabin. It is a major improvement over the Bose set up which should be the standard system in all Porsche models.
