Default Turbo Tom goes to the drag strip (video)

Well firstly let me preface this by pumping up our buddy Sambo...yes again !!

He and I have been working towards this day for some 4 months..working through the stages tune only..then exhaust & headers...then intercoolers..and finally turbos...voila..stage IV

The car started with an 11.07 with tune only...then ran a 10.7 with stage III..and I will admit I was uncomfortable with the results (the way the car acted) after stage IV...it really didn't like to launch and stuttered/stumbled and at times fell on it's face at race launch (more on this later)...but all the time Sam reassured me with constant calls...texts..files and support..endless

So today was the time to eat that damn red Huracan Lambo's lunch (buddy of mine) at the track..

I arrived a lttle late to a private track rental and he was second in line to run so I got a chance to see his run/time +...10.7...exactly as I had bested on my last track day..so I had a good feelin bout this already..heh heh

Weather was brutal for tannning but great for racing for us 4 wheelers..D/A below..quite cold and btw we're at 2200 ft here

My first run oddly was my best and...well..stats tell the rest

Again Sam thanks for the professional support and standing behind your product...the little hick ups (we had a few...stock ic frames too small...turbos needed tweaking) now seem far in the past

Now what must be done to get into the 9's and that stumble on the streets was simply a traction issue that went away on the track...it shifted snickity snick..yep..just like Sam said it would

Regardless, you will get into the 9's with Trofeo R.

BTW, impressive work, and very impressive commitment!!!

Gotcha. I track my car, so I could only use matching front and back compound. Are you running the OEM Pzero on the front? Kudos, again. Very impressive!

(I stare at TireRack.com far too much looking at tires for the TTS)

Nice car!

FWIW, the R888s are decent R-comps although the Trofeo Rs are a bit softer and grippier. I see you're running 315s on the rear... any rubbing? The R888s are 1/2 the price of the Trofeo Rs but they're not 1/2 as sticky... more like 90%. If you can get 90% of the grip (and twice the life) for 50% of the price, that is definitely a better value.

Hey..I know you
No rubbing..actually I could have went a Toyo size wider too..I'd do it differently all together next time and use a 19" wheel/ tire..too bad no tires available for the front

If you're going to the drag strip as opoosed to a road course, 19s should fit over the rear brakes. Sure, it might look a bit funny with 19" rears and (different) 20" fronts, but 19s are considerably cheaper and lighter to boot. You could swap them before the event, destroy those at the strip, and then put the OEM 20s back on when you get home. Or are you thinking going 19s all around as a DD as well?

The R888s are far superior at the drag strip to the Trofeo R's or Pilot Sport Cup 2s because their sidewalls are not nearly as stiff. That allows the tire to have a larger contact patch. The Trofeo R's and MPSC2 are superior to the R888 at the track because their sidewalls are stiffer.

Congrats on the 10.1s and the 140 mph trap. Are you running meth?

Ah - that makes sense as I have used them on a road course but have never taken a car to the drag strip.
