To sunroof or not to sunroof

To sunroof or not to sunroof
Just placed an order for a Carmine red 2017 TT. I was going to get the unit without a sunroof because I think the cr looks best like this. My friends are telling me I'm crazy for not getting a glass roof on a 150k + car. Can anyone comment on a 991 TT. Love your sunroof? Love no roof? This will not be a dd just a fun/ weekend car. Got a sunroof on my E92 M3 and was jealous every time I saw one with a carbon roof.

Love the glass roof. The extra light is nice to have year round. Running with the roof open and the windows down in the summer it feels almost like a convertible to my way of thinking (...without the downside of the soft top for days when you want to keep the elements at bay).

Love the glass roof too but fought the temptation this time as I wanted to try a different route after previous issues with rattles! I agonized over it at the time. My take 2 years in is overall I have not missed it at all. The car feels tighter, quieter, more rigid, and more solid and seemingly impervious to creaks and rattles. I can see now why GT3 doesn't have it with the stiffer suspension. I would just get what you want tbh. There is no right or wrong here. It is such a great car. Both options have their plus and minuses. If I go .2 which is on the cards, I could go either way if the deal is right but would not make a roof a deal breaker either way now. That said i would probably prefer if it didn't have the roof. But that's just me. I'm sure i would get over it in no time if it had a roof. It's such a phenomenal car!

I had the same struggle as you did OP. I don't like and don't use sunroofs, but was told that for resale, I need it. I finally changed my order to sunrooof, but the metal one, not glass, as it looks like it isn't even there. I don't have a single rattle or squeak either.

I think the resale story works more for the dealer than the buyer, and changes depending what they have in stock at the time. For orders it goes without saying - pump up the purchase where possible! That option list needs to be worked! I think there is no doubt an element where the larger majority has been brainwashed with the resale theory which in essence perpetuates the purchase of the roof (i've also been subjected to the sales pitch on previous occasions myself and gone with the pitch) but in reality I have yet to see or hear of anyone get smashed on resale for a car w/o unless of course the car has a dud color and trim combo and/or has been very scantily optioned out of the gate. So again I say just get what you want.

No sunroof. If you are buying for you. If you are specing the car for the next owner then sunroof. If you are specing for the third owner who will take it to the track then no sunroof.
Don't listen to us on this...
No sunroof on mine. Never use them. No rattles. Nothing to leak. Nothing to service. No worries.

I love the panoramic sunroof. Had the CF roof on my E92 M3, happy to have lots of light overhead now. Also great for my dog who loves to sniff the passing smells but I hate having the windows down due to the buffeting noise, so the sunroof helps in that respect.
My recommendation is, if you don't think you'll enjoy it and you don't prefer it, don't get it. If it's not there you won't miss it because you never had it.

Had a glass one in my 13 C2S think I opened it twice just to test it. Don't use them like the solid feel of a fixed roof. I was told also that it affected resale value, ok, still don't like them. Now the targa is a different story open air without being a convertible. Maybe next time.

Yeah agreed, TTS Targa....I'd love it. I had a older Vette with twin t tops really liked that design. Then Vettes went to that large unstable one piece top which wasn't easy to remove and store.

Had it on the 50th and tried the sunroof once. Have it on the wife's MB and neither of us use it-at all. Sunroof delete on both the 80 & 94 928's. If I ever get around to ordering the 991.2 TT it will not have a sunroof. Also don't fit comfortably with decreased headroom of sunroof when wearing a helmet. T

Never used mine either when I had it. Looking at it - It's just dead weight sitting up there waiting to cause a problem. The glass is quite novel though I'll give it that much, so in that sense I wouldn't make it a deal breaker but to pay for it? Hmm, pass. The contrasted look is also subjective. Some colors it works, others not IMO. Resale may also prove the car without is worth more. I read on the 997 tt forum recently where ones without the roof were gold, hard to get/find. Maybe why Porsche has now offered the 991tt w/o roof? Less is more! Sales guy will say different though I'm sure of that lol.

I believe 997 was standard with sunroof. Only those who specified sunroof delete had no roof. I'm torn. Dealer says it's a must. I think it looks good with Carmine Red. Not sure if it will be squeak and rattle free in the long-run. Planning on keeping this one a long while.
