Default I might drop my GT3 for a GT4...am I crazy?

I just got an allocation for a GT4. I put myself on a list last year and my name came up. I have 991 GT3 with LWBS and I love it. She is crazy fast. I really have no complaints. I'm not as lucky as a few of you who can afford to have both.

Some comparisons to the 987 Cayman S I drove before switching to the GT3- The engine feels so far away, even at 9000K the cabin noise feels muted compared to my Cayman. The ride feels soft compared to my Cayman. GT3 feels much bigger, not quite as nimble or balanced (maybe that's just the driver getting used to rear engine layout). Some days I miss the manual; other days sitting in traffic I'm glad I have the PDK S.

Some might think I'm crazy to consider the switch; I'm wondering the same. I guess my thoughts are if I can have 90% of the fun and at third of the cost I should consider it.

Both are great cars, but I think you'll end up missing your GT3. If I had to pick one car it would be the GT3 over the GT4. Yes, the 991 GT3 isn't quite as "involved" as driving a 997 GT3/RS but it's damn fun. Only reason I can afford both cars is that I basically have 2 jobs and no wife & kids.

If you track your car a lot, no. For around town, maybe. For me, the overrun pops on mild throttle lift make me want to stab myself. I could not have one for that alone.

You are not crazy. I got my GT4 last Friday. I had been driving my 991 GT3 all week and thought I was in love with it. The GT4 made me feel like a kid - I forgot it had rev matching so I was delighted once I noticed the blip. There is no need to heel and toe. Plus, it's the tightest and shortest factory shifter I've ever used! Un frickin' believable... Love the burble in the exhaust. I had a 2010 RS (see gallery pics), this feels more civilized and comfortable but as potent.

GT3 is the superior car on all accounts. Granted I have never driven a GT4 but am familiar with Caymans which are very good cars.

Can you confirm if the burble happens even when barely on the gas and lifting? And if so, is the intensity of the burble the same or similar when barely on throttle and lifting, as it is when harder into it?

Congrats and glad to hear you're liking it. Also, can you turn off the rev match?

Not crazy imo. I'm waiting for a GT4 allocation. I learned to drive (track) in a 987 and like the mid engine feel. Side by side for a drive to track car I'd pick the GT4 and pocket the change for tires and brakes. That said the GT3 is a hoot and I'll keep it.

I would only move from a gt3 to a gt4 if I needed some quick cash.

Default Don't do it!

Granted it's not a GT4 but my Cayman S Sport had mods and was quick. But my GT3 is by far the superior car. By a wide margin.

-100hp loss will be felt
-Top end rev loss will be noticed big time
-The manual in the GT4 will be fun. Won't make up for the 9K PDK rush
-GT4 will never have the cache of a GT3. It's a tweener..
-Don't succumb to the I have to have it because it's new or rare disease
-You'll have to buy another GT3

Just one man's opinion. Good luck...

It's a GT3 I would say that sums it up.

Caymans are great cars and handle incredibly well.

In NJ you see a 911 every other car...yet very few caymans...I love the fact the GT4 has a manual trans...I guess it depends...for what you are using it for, etc. But no you aren't crazy...GT4 is cool.

I like my 3.8L Cayman more than my 991 GT3. I just didn't fall in love with the 991 3 - hopefully will with the RS...
