Anybody lowered the 991 GT3 1/2"
#16
I'm going to lower mine soon now that I'm done messing around with the exhaust. I'm going to do it in the garage. I just need to figure out what spanner wrenches I need. I have quite a few of them that I've acquired over the years. Anyone know where to get the Porsche specific versions?
I'm going to lower mine and worry about alignment when I get new rear tires. I'm guessing that will be in 2-4,000 miles. I've never had an issue lowering a car and not having an alignment right after. With a 1/2" drop you aren't going to get a whole heck of a lot of camber/castor change.
Maybe it's where I live, but I don't have any issues and rarely feel the need to use my lift. The front lip on my M3 is actually a full inch lower than the GT3, and it has never scraped.

Brandon, that would be helpful and much appreciated if you would not mind asking the tech what alignment spec he used?, I would assume factory settings... I have been told an alignment is needed and no alignment needed by 2 different qualified Porsche techs for 1/2" drop, go figure. I would certainly think a alignment would be money well spent to make sure everything is on point.
Does the car feel as if it bottoms out on bumps and heavy braking or does the car feel the same? I certainly don't want to have adverse effects to the handling of the car.

Aside from the car feeling slightly stiffer everything feels great IMO. No problems with bottoming out, handling, etc.

His opinion is that an alignment is very necessary. Used factory GT3 specs with slight mods to toe and camber for improved tire wear. (FWIW he races his personal 997 on weekends and is an instructor)

I don't notice any difference. Just me, but until I read this thread I thought stock was fine, actually better than. Now in comparison I still see radius tires and fenders on the lowered suspension, and even if you could get them tucked into the fenders I think it wouldn't look that great. Just my humble opinion.

I agree with montoya.....the difference isn't really that noticeable to me either so why go to the trouble and expense, further reduce the margin of clearance safety for an already low car, and mess around with the factory optimized suspension set up? It's not like there's a big gap to the fenders in stock form; personally I think the stance already looks just fine.

Looks awesome Brandon! It's the subtle adjustments that make the biggest difference. I would argue that the GT3 has plenty of clearance. Now I do live in super flat Florida.
My M3 makes me a little nervous, but has never hit.
The GT3 front lip is a solid inch higher.
The GT3 gap between the fender and the tire is just shy of and inch. I have my M3 set-up with a gap a little of a quarter inch less.
