Default Angeles Crest - August / September +

Angeles Crest has been closed down due to mud-slides and is expected to re-open in August. I'm thinking of doing a run up the mountain, have breakfast at Newcombs and then come back down the 138 assuming everything reopens in August or September.

Highway 2 is one of the few state roads with zero tolorance speed limits due to the number of bikers that have died. So, this will be another safe and fun but a little bit spirited drive rather than something better reserved for the track.

I'd like to get my service director at Rusnak involved for this one and maybe we could even meet there in Pasadena since it's relatively close to the 2. Anyways, if you're interested, feel free to post for a head count. Also, please post available weekend dates in August or September and we'll try to find a good date that fits for the majority of folks. If the road isn't fully open, we'll post-pone as needed. Also, this road typically has a lot of sand and gravel and it's a good idea to give a lot of room between you and the car in front of you to avoid the dust, dirt, stones and debris.

UPDATED INFORMATION

LOCATION AND MEET TIME

So, we have special permission to meet at Rusnak Pasadena Porsche this Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 8:00 a.m. to meet-up. Coffee will be available! If you've never been to this dealership, be advised that there are customer parking spots when you enter and we should be able to park there as well as overflow a little bit.

Rusnak Pasadena
325 W Colorado Blvd, Pasadena, CA 91105

We'll head over to Newcombs from there. I think for this little run we'll just head to Newcombs and if folks like the run, later in the year we can do the rest of the mountain. Or, if folks wish to split off after brunch, of course they're welcome to do so.

I've lost track of our list but, if people wish to be added or removed, it would be helpful if you post so we have an idea of head count.

Hidden Springs Cafe on Angeles Forest is also a cool place to meet. Less traffic in my recollection.

EDIT: Oops, looks like it burned down since the last time I was there ;~{

Newcombs it is!

I would also like to suggest highway 38, coming from Big Bear Lake, which I personally find more enjoyable than Angeles Crest.

If you don't get a 7 am start - might as well not go. Angeles Crest becomes too dangerous and congested with all the bicyclists.

I got so many stupid tickets at Angeles Crest. Not even for speeding. Tinted windows, no front license plate, etc. I'm down for highway 38. I think it's less congested than Angeles Crest.

Little Tujunga would be a nice drive.

Thanks for the feedback. We'll look at all routes including HWY 38. And, yes, I'm hoping for a very early start to avoid traffic.

Little Tujunga is one of my favorites...relatively free of cyclists and motorcycles...but it is a short drive.

Going to Monterey the 8/15-16 weekend, but free after that...

38 gets my vote. Or 138 up backside to 18 to 38. Great loop.

I'm down, but would prefer Sept. I have an obligation every weekend in August. At least the last three weekends will be at a track...

Is the Angeles Crest getting as bad, as in too many people, to drive like "The Tail of the Dragon" - that's if you have driven both recently?

Could be interested...we did a drive not too long ago with some GT3s...wasn't that bad.

Definitely not getting up at 6AM to get there by 7 though

That's pretty far past Newcombs...at least for those of us coming from LA
