However a significant portion of Ferrari owners are just poseurs (not tree huggers) who just need to be seen in the latest and greatest Ferrari, even if it's a turbo, so there are waitlists for the 488.
Most of the Ferrari guys I have met, and I have met a few are not member of the poseur set, just big time car nuts.

Most of them don't give a rat's but what others think.

There are exceptions.

As I have said many times before this exists in both camps, there are a couple of d-bags in my neighborhood in scottsdale that just happen to have Porsches....the Ferrari group I did my last track day with are just as enthusiastic as any other car guys I have ever met. Bottomline is you can find a d-bag group in every make and model.

Completely agree. There are certainly d-bags that drive Porsches, and other sports cars for that matter.

However, I would postulate that the % of d-bags is higher among Ferrari/Lambo drivers than among Porsche drivers. Just look at the rennlist forum for initial evidence. Rennlisters are generally friendly, they write entertaining and useful posts, they donate to disasters on the other side of the world because a rennlister posted something, people help each other out on the threads in great ways, etc.

FerrariChat is not like rennlist, although there are plenty of first class guys that post on F-chat, just not the same % as here.

I say this as a guy who loves the sight and sound of a V8 Ferrari and plans to buy a 458 in two years as I'm a car nut who appreciates many makes and models.

i expect mine stripped no options at 70% of MSRP in 2 years. i have patience. keep the car nice, don't drive it much. .2 will come out. prices drop. you'll all see! pre 991 cars are a bit different, they are "pre high tech" don't expect 991 to follow that curve. the 996/997 didn't until the 991 was announced, they depreciated quite well (not as bad as turbo or 911s of course). i don't need latest, my 997RS is much faster than me. Lots to teach me. And I think it looks good. Kinda mean. Kicks my ***, bites back sometimes. And LO has too much flash, same with UV, i'll take mine in silver please, again, stripped. AC and radio are OK.

In the meantime i'll buy up all the nice G and 964 cars i can find. They are a blast to drive.

You are a lot more patient then me but I can be patient when it comes to $200k+ cars. Btw, it's not like the 964 market isn't juiced up today as well. I put my name down at 3 dealers for the .2GT cars so I'm not missing out in 2-3 years.

Juiced up or not, when you can get a great condition 964 or two for the markup they're asking on 991RS... I'll take the 964. We're talking a run from 25k to 40-50k. Yes % big, $ not so big! And fun factor and porsche-ness factor very big! Hell I'd rather go find a 355 than pay 100k over for a 991RS. But if you have the $ to burn so be it! have at it.

I love my 964. It was my first Porsche. It's a bit of a FrankenPorsche, but it is a blast.

In retrospect it would have been almost worth flipping a 918.

Crazy isn't it, the proceeds would have more than covered an RS and the tax difference....free RS. We could have split it.
