Default OT: Footsteps of Mille Miglia 2015

Hi,

Me and my wife was thinking that we should do the Mille Miglia during our vacation.
I do not know if it is an good idea or bad idea. The thought is that we probably end up at places we normally wouldn't consider visit.

So I wonder if you dear Rennlister know of any hidden or maybe not so hidden gems we should visit on our tour?

very nice idea, but whether you shouldn't care too much in running exactly the route of the race I would reccomend (as an italian) to skip the most ordinary sections (straight and flat roads across very populated areas without any particular panorama) to spend more time in the most interesting areas and surroundings. It depends on how much time you want to dedicate to this trip.

btw.. this is the 2015 route with some variations (in the last of your maps) to the original one in order to pass by Monza to celebrate Milan Expo

The above is difficult to know in advance for someone who do not know italy so well.

I have started to studie the route details of Mille Miglia and I can say that we will not follow that exactly even if we would like to do that: We will miss small roads, we will make mistakes etc.. But the idea is not to follow Mille Miglia exactly but to have a interesting journey.
