Default No more GT2

Total 911 magazine just sent out a newsletter stating that the GT2 is done, with no 991 GT2.
Makes me wonder about the gen.2 RS being turbo>>>>

Quote:

The GT2 is perhaps the most formidable 911 ever made, but more fearsome is the news that the Widowmaker model is all but dead… for now. In a Total 911 exclusive, Porsche has confirmed to us that there are no plans currently in place for a 991 GT2 as the latest generation heads towards a turbocharged engine across the range. The facelift isn’t due until September.

I wonder if this is just a matter of semantics. I have heard that there will be no GT2 also, but I heard there WILL be a GT2RS. I guess we'll find out.

I think part of the issue is if Porsche intends to go forward with the 960 project. That could overlap a GT2/RS in price and performance, perhaps. Or more troublng, maybe a GT2RS would be as fast or faster than the proposed 960 (which is estimated to cost well more than a potential GT2RS).

FYI, posted in a thread on here over a month ago...

http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/ne...he-911-gt-cars

Preuninger confirmed that a new GT2 RS would be built but said it would not be for the existing series of the 911 [991.1]. Instead, it will come at the end of the life of the Gen 2 car [991.2], probably in 2018.
Either way, I'm in for a 991.2 GT2 and/or a GT2 RS. Can't say no.

Once Porsche works out their variable compression engine, will see a GT2 again. Best of both worlds a Turbo engine with NA compression off boost and completely beast mode on boost at low compression.
