I think the new RS looks awesome. I know many here say that the RS is just so much more special in all iterations but I just don't see the value proposition for my $$. If money is no object, sure go for it. I'm just not one of those people. I think that the base GT3 is more than most owners can handle or fully exploit anyways.

IMO, the 991.1 RS is a little too gimmicky and not worth the differential vs. GT3. When Porsche puts vented fenders and side air intakes on the cup, them I might consider it... oh, and don't forget the pit limiter. Best deal is GT3 with rear-cage, driver's side harness, cup suspension conversion, 19" wheels with hoosiers and racing brake pads, brake fluid and track alignment and CB. Maybe add a center-by-pass for more sound. You can get all that and have $30k in your wallet and beat any new RS' lap time.

If there was no GT3, I would pay $160k for a base RS. That would be pretty fair deal, IMO

The current RS MSRP is reasonable (if not more than reasonable for what you get). People have to understand that, with the sole exception of the GT4, anything in comparison to the GT3 will look like less of "a deal". I realize this is not OP's question, but I do think the RS would sell out pretty quickly at a higher MSRP -- perhaps the 200k range, or even more. If this is correct, then current buyers at MSRP should feel pretty good.

Best value for $$ I ever owned was the 4.0, followed by the prior to the 4.0 two 3.8RS's.
The worst one was my 2007 GT3.

Interesting. Can you elaborate regarding the 07 GT3? I never owned one, but very much enjoyed the times I drove one.

Because it was quite a bit less performance on road and track compared to later ones and it depreciated to most due to economical cycle / my timing -> Bought July 2008 pre crash and sold it early 2010 post crash.

I'm at the point for that sort of $ I'd rather just have a dedicated track car and something less fast but killer to drive for the canyons. Track car + antique for the street. I think I'm getting old.

And I'm with Laguna, I think a 991GT3 with the right cup parts, stripped for weight, 0 options, safety equipment, is a sweet track day machine. Just waiting for market and prices to tank :-)

I know myself to well. Horns grow big and very competitive. Thats why I track a $50k 996.3!
I really enjoy driving the 6RS and 4.0 but only spirited country road driving and to car meets. Hopefully I have time to take the 4.0 to the Ring this summer. Car will be full of stickers. On the inside. Reminding me to take it easy!

So a 991rs at this price point would be treated the same way as 4.0!

GT4 is pretty tough to pass up if you bring up the value argument. Stock standard it's 10 seconds slower around the ring and 0.5 seconds slower around Hockenheim in the latest supertest. $45,800 to the GT3 for 10 seconds and 0.5 seconds. $45,500 for the GT3 to GT3 RS which I suspect will get you around 8 seconds and 0.3 to 0.5 seconds, but only time will tell. GT4 tough to beat for the money...

IMO, next GT3 Cup will have the vented fenders, RSR already has the air intakes so it'll probably happen too. Here's the new for 2015 AMG GT3 race car with vented fenders, expect more cars to have them:

i think in these "hypothetical" Q's. ppl tend to alter the orig question
it's what is the higheswt price one would pay for RS. not is it a good value relative to A, B, C or if you had 250k what would you buy in place of RS.

i think i would put my base msrp at $200.

a dedicated track car would be great. but i see that as a separate issue vs. price of RS.
b/c if one wants to bring in dedicate track car, a sudnay car, a church car, a cool canyon car. then then why stop there. i need annual budgets for bicycles with is usually in 20-30k range and one prolly isnt enough. bike tires aren't that much cheaper than car tires. my rear was $150. then one should also have watch budget, DE budget etc...

i see the question as an automatic reflex question....
i see it as boxing match (just back from vegas and looking forward to pacquiao and mayweather..) all boxers are tough and want to win. willing to take a few hits and cough up blood.... so the RS price question. how hard, how many punches will you take and how much blood you must cough up before you say, ok... i am done, just end this bout, i lost. i am going home. that point is the "uncomfortable point" and the point at which you are done buying the RS, no matter how good it is. everyone has that point. you know when you hit it.

For me I would say $200-210K base....I would also say if I could get one I would sell my GT3 and 458....the Ferrari is already getting mental neglect because the GT3 is just that much fun....I can see the RS serving as an all around dd, track, and weekend fun car.....

The alternative would be to stick w/ the GT3. I see $200k MSRP for the base car the max I'd consider. Beyond that, the 3 makes so much more sense. You get a better looking ride that has 99% of the driving benefits...

FWIW if I had an RS allocation I would have to pass as even stretching the car price from 155k GT3 to 185k as the additional 30k would make the monthly payments not doable.
