I'm sure the County would LOVE to have organizers boycott. That way they can close the track once and for all and open it up to the developers. It sickens me that people have the nerve to move next to a track and then complain. Same thing with people who move next to Amusement parks or concert venues or airports.

Also, if it's mostly just one particular squeaky wheel. Perhaps, someone should go pay them a visit with a tire iron...to change their mind, I mean, change their tires for them. Or just encourage the County Supervisor to learn to say F&$% YOU to the person.

You are right. If the County of Monterey doesn't see good revenue from LS they will close it and develop it. All politicians are short sighted and that scenario brings in a lot of immediate cash.

Lime Rock Park is 88dB. I would think there are many stock cars that wouldn't be able to pass there at WOT.

Am told that Laguna Seca has mobile noise monitors that can be used if they think someone is trying to beat the system.

What's really crazy about the Laguna limit, is that it is lower than what CA allows legally on public roads - 95 db.

It's all relative to how far away you measure it from the source, no? I assume Laguna's 90 dB standard is really specific to their track, the surroundings, and the distance they measure it from the cars.

Measurement standards can be different so maybe it's not apples to apples, but still stock GT3 is fully legal on California roads but illegal on a designated racetrack. Paradox...

Took my GT3 for its first track day (actually weekend) at LS on Saturday and Sunday. Great PCA GGR event! My car has stock exhaust. The sound limit was 92 dba.

Having read this thread (and others), I was cautious when going by the sound booth (of course I was cautious in general since this was my first outing with a GT3 -- I have driven LS before). My successful, but slow, strategy was to upshift to 4th and hold it at 4-5k rpm until the bridge. This consistently worked, although I would occasionally hold people up until the bridge.

I did try a three lap sound check. My understanding was you go out for three laps, your sound is recorded, and if you exceed the limit you are okay. Well I hit 98.5 dba on my second lap when I went by flat out in 3d gear and was meat balled. Went in and thought I would be let back out. No -- I was done for the session but it did not count against the 3 per day limit.

The last session on Sunday was 30 minutes, so I figured I do a normal 20 minute session and use the last 10 minutes to test the sound limits.

At first I kept it in 4th, but stayed on the left hand side by the sound shack and accelerated. No meat ball.

Finally I went by on the right side in 3d, not flat out, maybe 7k. I really expected the meat ball, but no. I was so surprised that afterwards I spoke to some race officials to make sure the sound booth was still manned? Yes it was.

So I'm confused about how fast you can go by on a 92 dba day. I wouldn't be surprised if atmospherics has something to do with the variability. It was cool (65-75) and light winds.

So, for those with stock exhausts, what have you found to be the limits by the sound shack? Gear, rpm, speed, which side of the raceway?
