Default Are you skipping the 991 GT3 RS, and waiting for the 991.2 GT3

I currently have a 997.1 GT3, with the Manthey 3.9 conversion. I will almost certainly receive a GT3 RS allocation, but I am not sure I will order one. There will almost certainly be a 991.2 GT3, and a 991.2 GT3 RS. My feeling is that the GT3 RS price premium over a GT3 is too high, and the 991.2 GT3 will be equivalent to the just announced RS.

For those of you who own GT3s, have you had similar thoughts?

P. S. This is in no way an attempt to sell an allocation. I consider that behavior unethical. The next person in line at the dealer should receive my allocation if I do decide to pass on it. I would simply tell the sales advisor to just apply my deposit to the 991.2 GT3.

I see there being a GT2 and GT2 RS (and have already placed deposits on both) - I don't actually see there being a GT3 as part of the 991.2/992 given the switch to all turbos. I know AP said there will be a couple of years of N/A cars left, but to me that implies the GT3 RS and GT4 as well as a limited edition GT3 RS with a stick option.

I'm switching my 991 GT3 for the GT3 RS and adding the GT4. IF there is a 991.2 GT3, I'll figure out what to do then, but depreciation won't be too steep on any of the cars.

Just curious.

How do you know for certain there will be a 991.2 GT3 or RS?

If you don't know and are just making an educated guess, what if there is no .2 iteration of either model?

If, in fact, you do know, then how are so sure the future price premium won't be as significant or similarly "too high"?

Also, how do you know you will live long enough to see whatever future model Porsche has in its sights? Or, worse yet, how do you know you won't end up a paraplegic when/if the next great thing on four wheels comes from Stuttgart?

All kidding aside, that's just a roundabout way of saying unless you have a solid reason (ie financial or personal) for waiting, then there's no reason not to get the .1 RS (assuming of course you even want the car).

Good luck.

You must have won every debate in high school, because you make some great points. There really is no financial or personal reason other than a 5 car garage limitation.

I've actually just started to think along these lines...nothing difinitive but my GT3 is so damn good I'm wondering if I wouldn't be better served enjoying it and learning how to drive it better while I wait for the next 991.2 iteration of RS (whether that be a GT2/3). Of course I'm trying to be logical and it may (will) all go out the window when/if my allocation comes through. But, on paper the RS doesn't completely wow me...the looks on the hand have knocked me on my ***. To be continued...

I live near the water...I'd kill for a 5 car garage. Not impossible...just wouldn't have any money left to fill the garage if I built one that large.

I haven't really given it much thought as I've only had my GT3 a year and am not even fantasizing about my next car. However....

Despite the hopeful comments about the future of NA GT cars from various corners, I'm not as optimistic as to what the next generation will be like, or even if there will be one. Things can change pretty quickly and it's why I bought my 991 GT3.

Although the price differential relative to the changes would have me swallowing hard, if I wanted a NA car, missed the opportunity to buy a GT3, and had an allocation for an RS, I think I'd be jumping on it . Bird in the hand, and all that. OTOH, some people have a higher tolerance for uncertainty than I do.

quadriplegic... wow, that was a little rough...

but i definitely agree that every day is a gift and given a lower depreciation curve on these limited models, trade-up behavior will be fairly painless financially, me thinks...

I really like the 991gt3! IMO I think it looks better than the RS.
The dream for me would be if they offer a more hardcore RS and PTS!

Okay - When the RS was introduced in Geneva I was in St Thomas on vacation for the week. My mind was playing games with me ect. and tried to find justification to trade up to the RS. Now that I am back home and I have uncovered my GT3 and preparing for the next couple weeks of decent weather - I WILL NOT BE TRADING UP My GT3. It just looks to freakin good.

Now - In a couple years if a 991.2 came out and I have a chance to PTS or grab one in GR - Yes - I will do so

If you subscribe to the theory that after September there will never be another naturally aspirated engine put in a Porsche ever again then that will kill a lot of people's hope on a GT4 RS. Especially after the recent Evo article when AP said he would be open to it if the market wanted it. Also, the GT4 may turn out to be the real keeper if their production run is that short. There will be many more 991.1 GT3/RS' running around.

Yes Sir. I am skipping the 991.1 GT3 RS keeping my 991.1 GT3 unless there is a N/A 991.2 GT3/GT3RS. A goal of mine would be to have a 997.2 GT3/GT3RS and one of the last N/A GT3s as a long term hold.

Without the arrival of my current GT3 [very soon though], I find it most difficult even thinking about the possibility of a next generation. As none of us actually know whether we will even see another NA 3, I will wait until then to worry about what to do.
