Talked to Porsche directly, looks like 600-700 maximum build numbers for GT3 RS in the USA.

In my years of ownership, I've seen on the street, in my immediate area, 2-7.1gt3, 1-7.2rs and 1-4.0 (the 4.0 was at a cars and coffee). Admittedly, I don't live in SoCal where super-cars are dime-a-dozen; I live in Houston. But, I literally see 3 white 991 gt3s parked at my gym every most mornings (same guys obviously). I've seen over a dozen different 991gt3's in various restaurant/retail parking lots. In the inner loop of Houston tx, the 997 gt3 has been a unicorn. the 991, i sometimes see multiple on a given day. I'm sure this could be a hangover effect from recent $100 oil. You might also attribute the increased visibility due to the practicality of 991gt3. But, there's clearly a step change in the amount of 991 gt3s that are floating around my area.
I've seen a similar phenomenon. Maybe the 991 GT3 is more tolerable for everyday use and that's why we see them more often . But I also think there are more of them around.

I know of several 3.8 RSs in town, but they don't come out too much. By the way, that's my 4.0 you saw.

This is the same thing a GM of a porsche dealer told me this week. He is very knowledgeable and knew that I was not interested in a RS- he was passing on the info he had.

According to WIKI and other sources 997 GT3 production .1& .2 aggregated 4600+ cars. If we assume 50% made it to the US then there should be some 2300 around, which is way more than 991s. I agree with the theory that car is more usable as DD and MAYBE that 991 buyers could be more interested in driving their cars (this pure speculation on my part).

your numbers make sense based on Mech33 report from Geneva auto show. He was told by Porsche rep 1000 world wide.

This will be interesting to follow! The 991.3 is by far the most successful gt3 and will likely hit almost 1800 only in the US. I think the RS will be just as successful, but it's hard to know how many potential buyers? We all know that everyone that wanted a 1.3 got one! So my guess 700-900 cars should make everyone happy? 600-700 sounds logical and if demands is higher just add a couple of hundred cars towards the end? I know this is not what the dealers want to read! But probably close to the truth?

I have one coming, and was working on an allocation for my dad, and went to the top guys at Porsche and Porsche Motorsport. Those numbers are for sure that it will be 700 maximum, but could be as limited as 600 they said.

Wish the color options were better, ultraviolet looks cool actually, but a sapphire blue or something would be nice. Guards red even, a classic Porsche color....

I agree on them bumping it up if the demand is there - this is what they did with the GT3 - many dealers ordered them for inventory as they didn't have time to find custom orders and most sold within a week of hitting the floor.

I view the 600-700 as the initial allocation, if they get locked orders quickly on them all, they'll send more.

This I believe- limitation on production makes no sense for Porsche on a standard production model like the RS. BUT, saying we will only build so many and doing it consistently helps fan speculation and demand, building to a crecendo, and then WHAM- here's so more allocations! Plus the Euro to Dollar exchange has never been better- this has to be Porsche's most profitable model and extra juicy in US$'s.

Edit: To be fair Mr. Rahal above has no doubt some good contacts at Porsche- who am I to disagree? If the official factory answer is this is all we are doing, then how can you argue?

VW also had the worst sales performance of any major auto for February, declining 5% YoY while the overall market grew 5%. Including all brands it was only a 2% decline. A few extra hundred RSs won't move that figure, but they'll certainly improve the profitability and revenue figures YoY.

CEOs are first and foremost sales people, any CEO that isn't is probably getting replaced shortly. I'm sure 700 the official external communication strategy at the moment.

I'm sure that IS the official line at this moment in time but they left the door open to make as many as they can sell; otherwise they would be numbered. I wouldn't take the under on 700.
