Porsche only option with these flat6 NA engines are to add KERS technology and brakes regenerative charging to boost 40 to 60 more HP out of it.

I think 100kg weight penalty will come with hybrid technology at the least.

991.2 GT3 will have 5-lug hubs.
Comes from a trusted source.

Then they better start making the car smaller and lighter. If they want to keep the current large dimensions and an NA motor, a Flat-8 makes more sense at some point.

Yeah, the flat-6 in the current iteration with the 991 GT3 and/or RS has pretty much maxed out.

Like you said, if PAG wants to keep a flat-6 NA setup in future GT cars, then they either have to make the cars out of plastic, or require that the car be driven only with 100 octane fuel.

No such thing as the 991.2 GT3. Yet.

Sort of like asking how high property taxes will be on Mars.

You could be right. The Mezger however was produced in rather small numbers and that did not keep Porsche front manufacturing it as expensive as it was. Maybe VW will put the kibosh to that.

Obviously such engine could be the basis for homologation for future competition motors.

One thing is clear in my head is that the 991.2 GT3 will have a flat configuration as that is the brand.
The source is apocryphal, but I recall reading this in one of the UK Porsche specialist magazines awhile ago:

Porsche Motorsport wanted to offer the Mezger/GT1 Block engine in the upcoming 996 GT3 street car on the heels of the 1998 Le Mans success, but they were unable to make a business case for it given production numbers of race cars and GT3s. Only when the M96 engine was deemed unsuitable for the 911 turbo - and the GT1 block used in its stead - were there sufficient economies of scale to use the GT1 in the road cars.

One thing to consider here. Assuming the next GT3 is only a couple years out, they don't have much wiggle room without it trouncing the RS. 7:25 vs 7:20 on the ring is a tight margin, and it's hard to believe they'll let the next GT3 be any faster than the RS (maybe the same). Also, given they needed to go to 4.0L to get 500hp, I'm not sure how much more they can squeeze out of the 3.8.

Porsche didn't have any issue letting 997.2 GT3 comprehensively outperform 997.1 GT3 RS (7:40 vs 7:48). Doubt it will be an issue now.
