I can vouch for the quality of Aleks' work. His work on my E90 M3, E30 M3 and GT3 are absolutely top notch. I'm looking forward to his harness bar going in my GT3!

Quick question:

This is being referred to as a "harness bar" instead of "roll bar"

Is there any difference? To me it looks like a rollbar.

I've been considering the GMG roll bar but this one looks nicer. Just wondering if there are any safety/functionality differences.

Thanks in advance.

Jeff

I'll post some pictures shortly. But basically it mounts to the existing mounting points on the car. So no drilling, welding or cutting of the car is required.

Bar comes with a bracket that is being bolted to the car with factory bolts up in the front and the rear pads that are part of the bar is also being bolted to the two existing mounting points on the car. The rear pads that we made also have a centering self aligning opening so it's easier to get the bolts in.

Jeff calling it a harness bar is probably an understatement It probably is a roll bar but I don't want to call it that way as it's a liability

Yes this bar offers everything that GMG doesn't:

Safety - in short I don't feel very safe when the main hoop of the bar is being held my 2 M10 bolts that seat belt is being bolted with. It's not safe to me and it doesn't provide any stiffness.

Stiffness - again main hoop doesn't have any cross bars to prevent the two tubes from flexing. We also used a spreader bar in the rear down low to add extra stiffness to the bar.

Here are some pictures we took of the bar off the car

Here you can see where it mounts on the back and front

Looks like a nice solution for those that want a roll/harness bar and not a full cage.

But yes the entire bar is build outside the car and then bolted in to the factory mounting points.

We also didn't want to cut the plastic panels so the bar comes down just a few millimeters past the side plastic panels.
Very nice, the finished product looks great.

Could you elaborate on the "factory mounting points"? My understanding was that US spec cars do not come with the mounting points for the CS package roll bar available in the ROW, so exactly what factory mounting points are you using? Thanks!

Mike, If you pull the carpet back in the corners where the forward section mounts to the car you can see the bolt locations they are using. In the last photo above the bolts are on the vertical plane of the rectangular tube. I believe the fact that the bolts and mounting holes used are in a factory located part is where the term 'factory mounting points' came from. I'm sure it is a lot stronger than mounting to the seat belt bolt in single shear.

Alan, in lieu of going out to the garage and pulling the carpet back, I'll take your word for it. So, are these holes that just happened to be in the chassis for some reason or are they designed for the attachment of some other item in the 991 line that isn't used for the GT3? I'm not questioning the suitability of the mounting location, just curious.

Mike, The location where the bar mounts already has a plate there with bolts. The question is what is the box structure made from and what is it designed for, correct? I'm trying to find some information on the body. I've seen colored renderings before that utilize different colors for different grades of steel. If it is an HSLA type then it was designed for higher loads. I'll post what I find.
